Looking for a little input on hubs and CV shafts noises.

I replaced my hubs not too long ago (within the past few months) with Moogs, right? While doing that job, I noticed my CV boots were torn and that there was grease slung everywhere. Cool, that's a job I KNOW I need to do, and am now getting ready to do it. Over the past week or two, my car's been making that dragging noise that's indicative of a bad hub. I turn right, it goes away. I turn left, there's no change. It is pretty d* loud. Which brings me to the question at hand: Can you diagnose bad CVs as you would hubs, or is it two different faults and I'm just hearing the new hubs going bad on top of bad CVs? The dragging noise, by the way, IS speed-dependent. It gets faster or goes away with the car's travel speed.
 


Have you checked the brakes? Might be a dust cover rubbing the rotor. Since you just did hubs it's possible that you bent one just enough and it's making contact.

I would concentrate on the pass. side for the noise as when you turn right you are unloading the pass. side a bit and shifting weight to the drivers side.

Never heard a CV "drag" before, but anything is possible. Also, when you replaced the hubs did you tighten the axle nut to ~150 ft./lbs? The bearings need this spec to set the preload correctly.
 
I'll have to check the brakes again, but I don't remember seeing a dust cover. I may have tossed it at some point in the past 10 years. Are you talking about the thin metal shims that the pads are supposed to slide on? If so, yeah...them things were tossed a LONG time ago.

I can't be sure what torque spec I used on the hub nuts, but I'll be checking that soon. Normally I set torque to f*ing tight and roll with it.
