Looking for a 4 door manual transmission car

My wife's Mustang is acting funky, so we're probably going to sell it. She likes a manual transmission, but with 3 kids, one an infant, a two door car with four seats isn't exactly the best car. So I'm looking for a decent used 4 door manual transmission car. I might be able to convince her to get a four door GP or Impala, but I want to keep my options open so that two years from now she doesn't want to get rid of it for the manual transmission.

And and I don't car about brand, foreign or domestic. Want I want is inexpensive and reliable. I'd LOVE to find a great deal on a Lincoln LS, since that is essentially a four door Mustang.

Please, no haters, just recommendations.

The only things coming to mind at the moment are something like the Grand Am, but I dont know if any of the newer ones have manual transmissions in them. I dont even know if any of the Jeep Cherokees had manual trannies in them. If they do, both of those vehicles can be had for next to nothing and both are extremely reliable.

Others that come to mind are:

Maybe the Chevy Aveo
Kia Spectra
Honda Civic
Toyota Corolla
Hyundai Elantra
Maybe the Mazda 3
Chevy Cobalt

Thats about all I can come up with at the moment.

The mazda wagon is nice. 4dr, manual, room in the back for stuff, and even looks sporty as hell. Not sure what they're running price wise though.

Mainly want to get some ideas. Can't find a manual LS though to save my life. Lots of Jettas and Passets when I searched near myself on Autotrader.

I was just on craigslist looking around Northern VA. Quite a bit on there and descent prices. Might want to check that out also.

my older brother has a mazda protage 5 . spelling? it's considered a sports wagon. its a 5 speed. and really roomy. maybe look into them? he got his from a fitzgerald used car lot. they even have a bunch of appearance/performance mods. i would think with the wagon part they would be pretty safe for the kids as well. as far as i know wagons are one of the safer cars. and also with the grand am idea, i remember about a week ago someone bought or was about to buy a halfway newish one. and was a 5 speed. think the thread was in the lounge as well

Evo, STI, mazdaspeed 3, mazdaspeed 6, or just wait for the G8 when its available in manual. I accually liked the mazdaspeed 3, it was decently quick, the only thing i didnt like was the room inside of it.

I'm trying to keep it under 10K, so as much as she'd love the G8 GTP, that's a no go. I'd even love to convince her to sell the Mustang and my GP and give her the Impala, and I get the G8. :D I'll have to get a resonator put on the Impala, too.

Lots of good ideas. Biggest thing though is we have to at least get what we still owe on the Mustang.

Those Lincoln LS' are nice, used to work with a guy who had one several years ago. Nice car, seemed to have decent power and it was a stick shift very comfy. He loved it because it was a big comfy car and a stick shift too. I don't remember him having much if any issues with it and I know he drove the hell out of it.

If im not mistaken the G8 will be more money for manual. Also they wont be making as much. ALSO it will not go down in price as fast as the auto due to the enthusiasts.

Just came to mind 92-95 taurus sho manual. I always liked those cars, very quick for what it is. As far as the lincoln LS, i drove one of those too, it had the 3.9 v8 with tiptronic. I really liked it, road noise wasnt an issue, very comfortable, and pretty quick. The handling and turning radius really surpized me. You could do a complete 360* circle and end up in the same position as you started.

no Kia, thats all i can say, they are crap... or Hyundai... maybe a Sonata.. but deff NO Spectra..

i would say an Accord V6 maybe?? reliable beyond your wildest dreams, quick, plenty of room, not bad to look at. maybe even a Camry... anything Acura.. YEAH an Acura Legend GS type-II 6-spd.. reliable, fast, roomy, you can get nice options like leather, moonroof, alarm, bose stereo, navigation.. they are great cars.

you would love it!! but i do have to say, the Aveo is a safe car. a member over at a-l.com has a gf that was at a light behind a Silverado, she was rearended at 45mph by a Lincon Aviator.. and shoved into the truck.. came out without a scratch. but the rear bumper was at the back seat..

I think some of the Volvo XC70 Cross Country Wagons come with stick and they all are AWD. Not a flashy car by any means but solid and practical with decent power.

I think I will be replacing my status coupe with one in a year or so. For the record I do not have kids and do not want any. I just want the cargo space with out buying a SUV and I want AWD. We end up using the GP more than we would like to haul stuff around due to my car being 2-door. If I could make my truck more road worthy though I would be looking at a RWD stick car.

The Hyundai Genesis is a nice car. I expect the new Tiburon to be built on that frame - A nice RWD sports car to compete with the pony cars. But the Genesis isn't yet within my budget, and won't be for a few years.

didnt even think of the Volvo R models... they are so sexi and they are fast, and ofcorse being a Volvo, they are safe, and reliable... the S60R in silver with black interior is the best.. or the wagon....
