Looking at buying a 2006 Grand Prix GT supercharged

Hey everyone,

I am looking to replace my 02 grand prix with a 2006 Grand Prix GT supercharged.

It's a one owner car with 83k miles and looks to be really clean. I am wanting to know if I should stay away from this car because its supercharged. I read that the supercharger oil needs to be changed every 30-50k miles and I am aware of the intake gasket issue as I currently own a grand prix. I will not be modding this car, it will just be my daily driver. I am looking for something that can be reliable for years to come. Any issues I should be on the look out for or any future issues I should expect?

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Dereck

think to yourself....what are all the problems i had with the old car????

same issue will also happen, all the common crap.

the sc oil is a issue to change now? maybe you dont want one then lol

sc cars have a different tranny gears and more power, whats the issue with more HP? its a factory made set up after all.

06 should have metal lim gaskets already. 04-05 were the mixing years, aka hit or miss.

Thanks Scotty!

The sc oil is not an issue to change, I was just stating I did some research before just making a post. Is there any known issues with sc bearings when the car get to be higher mileage?

they fail rarely. my gen 3 has like 240,000 on it, still spinning round and round.

best advice you can get is to take it for a long test drive. make sure the tranny dont slip or any thing once is all warmed up and driven.

as always, the tranny can hide a issue when cold, then show its self once its hot.

check all fluids, color and smell. look for rust in the truck strut towers and rockers. and any leaks.

if you really like the car, ask if you can take it to a shop to be inspected. shops gonna charge you but its best to get it on a lift and see if its got any issues you missed. paying the shop up to a 100 bucks is cheap insurance your not getting screwed over.

I recently bought a 2004 gp gtp with 45000 original miles and love it. I would Def buy a 2006 if I needed another car. I say go for it.

My 06 had the plastic ones so I put in the Delco aluminum ones. The plastic ones were in great shape and the mileage was around 105k but I knew it was only a matter of time so the upgraded ones went it.

I have to disagree because my 06 is a dream compared to my 97. 06-08 GPS have much less issues than the 97-03 gen. 04-05 has its issues but not as bad as The previous gen. The only major job that's been done to my car is the LIM gaskets and that's not even a hard job.
The overall quality of the 06-08 years is way higher than the older gen too. I currently have about 135k on it now.

its newer, but all the same crap goes bad. hubs are the same. bushings are the same. its not a redesign, just model change.
