• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

Look what I found while working on 06 audio

I had a blown rear speaker in my 06 GT (with base radio), and I came across a lot of interesting stuff....

I noticed the following plugs after removing the rear seat. I am guessing for some aftermarket amp, but I am just guessing?

While back there, I also noticed a wire hanging from the deck lid. Could this be what is supposed to attach to a trunk light (I don't seem to have a light)???

Next up was behind the radio area...
First I found some non-descript box that is between the antenna cable and the radio. It looks like it runs down to a big bundle of wire with an audio plug on the end. What they heck is that? Aux input? Seems like the wire is REALLY long.

Last is probably the easiest... The factory wiring harness that was connected to the base model radio. I had a new wiring harness from Walmart that I was hoping would work, but it only had connections for the "white" plug, and nothing for the black one, so it much be wrong.

I don't have Monsoon and I don't have On-Star either. What is the cheapest wiring harness that I can get that will work?

The black connector in the last pic is actually what lets the DIC communicate with the radio to store the date and produce the warning chimes. The wiring harness you have will probably work (if we knew what it was/looked like), you just won't have the date available on the DIC, nor will you have warning chimes for any messages that show up on the DIC.

And that box looks like an XM radio FM transmitter, which might explain the other wire you found in hanging from the rear deck (second pic). Probably wires for an XM antenna?

Walmart had a Scosche GM2000 for $40. It claimed that it retained the chimes. I never opened the package because I could never find hard evidence that it worked with a 2006 Grand Prix even though the connector looked right.

So for the black one, you just leave it disconnected? I know that I will loose the calendar date, but I leave my DIC on the "boost" screen anyway.

Thanks for the tip about the XM Radio. That would make sense that it is the transmitter, however the wire in the trunk looks "factory" and I have no light in the trunk, so I think that it is for my missing trunk light. The coiled up wire with the headphone type end is up front. Found it stashed behind the center console (up where your feet would go). I will just pull it out once I figure out the adapter.
