Locked out of my car with key in my hand...???

Hi everyone,

I am new to this website, and I am posting all the current problems I am having with my car. This is my third posting about why I cannot get in my car with the Key in my hand...Here is the details:

When I bought the car 5 months ago...The battery had went the day after I bought it. One night, I had to get something out of the car, but my key fob did not work...So I manually inserted the key turn it left and my car didn't unlock...Got battery next day and car still did not unlock with my key...When you turn it left, nothing happens...when you turn it right...it locks it...It is a electronic system key...If you have a 2004 or higher pontiac, you know what I am talking about. The key says "PK3" on it. Anybody else had this problem before or anybody know what could possibly be causing this to occur...? It's funny to be locked out of your own car with the key in your hand...Till this day, it has not been fixed...Any solutions?

Try the trunk. If that works then well, take the door apart and mak suer everything is connected... That of the retainer that holds the rod to open the door has become loose.

Well first off, not being able to unlock the door with the key has nothing to with passkey3, the security system or the battery. It is a mechanical problem of some sort. I would guess it is a worn key or the lock is frozen. It might be there is water in the lock, did you wash your car after you bought it, then freeze it into an ice cube:th_question1:

I would have a lock smith come over, look and at it. Maybe have him make you a standard key (not a $30 PK3 key) and see how that works. Also, if he is any good he will be able to tell if your key is worn. Maybe lube the lock, it is probably something simple, don’t take your door apart quite yet.
