Limp mode

I have a 2000 gtp. Car came to me needing an alternator and had a p0303 cylinder 3 ignition misfire. the car had a steady miss but otherwise ran ok. I replaced the alternator and replaced the plugs and wires. Now when it first starts up it runs fine, but after about 10 seconds it loses a few cylinders and they come and go, but the car has no power at all, as if in limp mode. i am clueless as to what it could be, all connections are good. any help appreciated!!

I dont think so because it almost like goes in and out of limp. it will idle perfect for a minute then go into limp and sometimes stall.

Also, the temp light is always on, and the temp gauge moves up over 160 after less then a minute of running. would a bad temp sensor do this?

Seen a couple situations like this at my old dealership tech job. IIRC the usual cause was an almost completely clogged cat. basically exhaust would get backed up into the intake and cause other cylinders to misfire. Typically it was the two adjacent cylinders that'd misfire.

Also explains why it'd run good for a few seconds then start missing and have no power.

Thanks for the info guys. Temp sensor was only 15 bucks so i put one on now it runs perfect. almost did seem like a clogged cat, that was my next step if the sensor didn't fix it. Amazing how something as simple as a temp sensor could make the engine run so bad!
