Lim and lifters replacement preperation

Im getting ready to do the lim gasket and replace the lifters on my 00 gtp. just got a few questions before i start. been doing alot of reading on this forum and have learned ALOT of info about this job. anyway my questions are, im wondering if i should get the garlock sc gasket or just the felpro. read some stories about garlock or (garleak) leaking. also im replacing the lifters while im in there and ive also read that the comp cams lifters have some type of defect?? if the comp cams lifters are no good what would be a good alternative for a stock replacement. any insight would be great. also here is a list of parts i will be replacing. please feel free to add any suggestions. thanks.

lim gasket (alumminum)
lim o rings
valve cover gaskets
coolant elbows
throttle body gasket
sc coupler/sc oil
sc gasket garlock or ??
lifters
rocker arm bolts
180 thermostat, and gasket
lower rad. hose
fuel injector o rings

Flepro s/c gasket all the way.

Seek OEM LS7 lifters from Texas Speed.

Get a set of 16.

It'll still be cheaper than getting them elsewhere.

They are the stock replacement from GM for any GM roller engine from the late 90's to present.

With the exception of the DoD engines.

thanks for the advice. any tips i should know about when doing this job. or problems i may run into??

Won't matter.

You should probably flush the system till clean water comes out then fill with coolant till you reach 50/50.

I use dexcool in my engine cooling system and prestone long life in the intercooler system so I can tell which system is leaking.

Aside from that, you should be fine with either one.

I do not suggest cheap long life coolant or ethylene glycol. I used the latter for a couple months before pitting in the supercharger case developed.

Prolly a dumb question but I should flush the system after I'm done with everything right?

It's a start to check that out... Easy job. Like Matt said, best thing to do is drain coolant so there's none to leak into engine when pulling manifold.

When done, refill coolant to get her to run, but get it flushed and all new soon after. Same with oil, drop some in galley prior to reassembly, run engine short time, then drain and replace + filter too. Change the plugs while you're at it, check your belts, etc. I also did the Tranny Pan drop at this time too, for another $100(+/-) for gasket, filter and oil, was worth doing it all at same time.

Good Luck!
:)

thanks for all the advice ill be doing this in a couple weeks ill let you all know how it went after wards. thanks again.

so i finally did the job this weekend. didnt run into any major problems . got everything back together and car starts and idles great. only one problem. when i accelerate or give it some throttle. the engine sputters. almost like a miss fire. i changed the plugs and still no fix. any suggestions??

Check all your vacuum lines and make sure you don't have any vac leaks. Also, double and triple check your firing order since you did new plugs and wires. 1 3 5 in front from left to right, then 2 4 6 in back from left to right (assuming you are facing the car from the radiator).

did you put anything on the lim bolts? you should use teflon paste, not tape, to seal them.

but it does sound like a vac leak. you used a torque wrench right? try retorqueing the sc bolts. also check for leaks at the egr.
