lesabre clunking when braking

Hi folks,

Posted this hear because not wbody. m

I visited my mom in TN over the weekend, drove her 2000 lesabre for the fist time. Strong 3.8, rides nice AC works etc .

One major issue, you press the brakes and it clunks. Does not clunk when shifting into gear, or from forward to reverse. I dont think its motor mounts, none of the classic symptoms. I was wondering if anyone had some idea as to what it was. I tried pretty hard to recreate the issue without pressing the brakes and couldnt.

Check the front control arm bushings on both sides, especially the ones facing the frontend. Check all the motor mounts especially the front one near the fan. Likely it's a control arm.

Mine did the same thing for a long time. It would do it when coming to a slow stop or on uneven surfaces. Turned out it was the control arms. Replaced them and all that went away.

Former LeSabre owner here. I agree with the other posts. Most likely the front lower bushing is worn on the lower control arm. Mine was the right side. Moog makes a replacement arm with a heavier duty bushing installed.

Prior Bonne guy here (aka dressed up LeSabre) and all the above are good, check the caliper/bracket bolts as well. A loose one will do that was well. Check sway bushings too.
