Leave it in Gear??

I have a 2000 GTP. I'm considering turning it into my autocross car next year, or at least preparing it to be. (I suppose this question is directed at Dave. LOL)

Sometimes it is an advantage to be able to leave the car in 2nd while cornering at many of the tracks I intend on running it at. I'm aware that putting a newer Tapshift transmission is probably a no-go (although that would be ideal) and I'm looking at getting a transmission built for this purpose...

Is there anything specific I would have to beef up more than just one of your standard upgraded trannies? I'd like it to last and not just be a race dedicated car, although it definitely wouldn't be my daily driver to rely on.

As far as mods, I intend on going with a full sized intercooler and possibly an XP cam with around a 3.0 GenV pulley set-up. I don't intend on going the turbo route... but I wouldn't rule out a twincharged setup a few years down the road. Throwing it in the corners is more fun than having a bottle rocket to me.

For autoX racing and using 2nd gear you should be fine. It is the harsh WOT upshifting and downshifting that beats these transmissions up, especially manual 1 as it raises the line pressure way up for extra holding power. There are a lot of guys that circle track race for example that- not just fwd cars- but they often just use 2nd gear as most tracks arent big enough to get into 3rd or the car just doesnt make the power to use it and 2nd is a much better gear to pull out of a corner than 3rd.

so pretty much do one of your street/strip builds based on my power output and I should be fine right? That's good to know. Thanks for the input.
