• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

Ho k so I applied to UW-Whitewater and UW-Madison back when I was a senior in high school. I got denied to UW-Madison but was accepted to UW-Whitewater, which was understandable because my grades were below par for highschool. So I have been at Whitewater and re-applied as a transfer student to UW-Madison. I thought I was golden since I am a member of Madison's Air Force ROTC program as well as making it on the Deans List at Whitewater with a GPA of 3.49.
Well last night I checked and was denied...... Best of all they did not really give me a legitimate reason. :( Freaking mission impossible I guess......

madison is our state capitol big time school with all of the smart people programs, as well as a balls ton of hippies.

white water and a few other UW schools (including UW milwaukee) are for dumb kids. :)

In real life there are very few places you can go to school that matter... Are you going for the transfer for a specific program they only offer at that campus? Are you chasing a girl? Because trust a fossil kid, ivy league, MIT, West Point... The only schools that will rally carry any kind of door opening clout... If you aren't going to one of those, might as well go to Chico State and major in malted hops... A degree is a degree in the private sector...

x2 top tier schools are the only ones really recognized.

say that to my engineering degree from a private school that got me my in at the last 3 jobs. booyah.

Hey Bios engineering degree that got him jobs! Your daddy didn't bother to name the "private school" he got you from... He really sold you out on that one... Consider it told sir... Hey wait Bio, where did you go anyway? Did you wind up chasing a program, or was it an any school will do kind of thing for you?

This is the best post I've ever read.

You win. I'm clearly a dumbtard with a no salary position and no benefits. I love people like you that judge my education. You're my hero.

Didn't you respond to the idea that certain schools matter and most don't by saying you yourself had a degree, and never said where you got it? I mean the thread is right here dude... We were talking about how the origin of a degree doesn't matter... Then you say, without context mind you, tell that to my degree... I also assume you said booyah under your breath when you posted... So then, in the post you quoted I pointed out you yourself didn't bother to name your school... Reinforcing my statement that alma mater don't mater... I even asked... Hey wait Bio, WHERE DID YOU GO ANYWAY? If you don't believe me, feel free to look at your own post... School rarely matters, tell that to my degree, ok degree school rarely matters, Then something about dumbtard or some out of context useless crap... Something about your check... Nothing about anything being said... Like that part when we were all, doesn't matter where your degree comes from... Remember that? That was awesome... Then like, you said... That thing you said... And like it didn't make sense... So lets try again, why not...

Hey bio, so like I said origin of degree usually doesn't matter, then you said tell that to my degree! Then I said YEah that thing I said Bios degree, take that! By the way, where did you get your degree from? Then you said ... Uhh... Some crap, job, waah? What does that mean?! What are you responding to?? What thread are you reading???

I have to support dave again... Despite his comments being fragmented or rushed; he is correct. If you don't attend a tier 1 school it hardly matters where you get your degree from. For example, a Harvard, Notre Dame, Bucknell, Duke, Colgate, and BC degree will be recognized and open doors for you that wouldn't normally be open if you attend schools like Temple, Lasalle, Rowan... In other words, at a tier 1 schools you receive a degree + the social/cultural capital or simply prestige along with it. Whereas, a non tier 1 school you will only receive a degree. Hope that clarifies things, it's not to put anyone down or not to say that there aren't outliers on the distribution, meaning that some people with "degrees" will have better jobs than those with tier 1 degrees, but largely it is the other way around.

ive seen people go to community collage and also to top rated collage and they all make more money "IF" they can find the job they wanted. these days that degree means less and less. not that it cant help either. but those good hi paying job are harder and harder to find.

the world needs ditch diggers too danny. "caddyshack" quote lol

Work experience matters far more than the undergraduate University, excluding MIT and a few others, when it comes to obtaining employment.

I am very smart, but there were many students with a higher GPA than my own. We all interviewed for the same summer jobs and I was the one who got to basically choose who I wanted to work for.

Work experience and practical skills are the two main factors for that. Universities are businesses that try to persuade you into their graduate programs. They are too theoretical IMO.

Im going to Whitewater and majoring in Marine Biology currently, but my career field is an Officer in the Air Force, in the ROTC program currently while attending college. But I want to transfer to Madison because well I have a lot of bros over yonder and we want to get a house together, also ROTC will be easier for me if im at Madison.
