l67 wont start need some advice

ive owned a gtp with an l67, but today i was offered a 97 buick riviera for cheap, problem is the engine wont start. battery looks good all electronics come on, no security issues, i can hear a noise comming from the battery which is in the backseat?(strange design by buick) but the engine itself does not crank, and makes no sound. i tryed tapping the starter with a hammer but had no luck. any ideas? i was thinking the starter as nothing else seems to be having an issue, ive also checked fuses and all are in good shape.

Can you check voltage at the battery when you try and crank it?

If it drops to sub 6-7 volts it will never even have enough juice to turn the starter over, and the dash light when just go dead.

make sure the engines not locked up, why it may have been "cheap"

that sound you hear is the fuel pump, the battery is under the hood

if the battery makes a sound, run from the car fast, its gonna blow up lol

battery is under the back seat in the G bodies. (riv/PA/last gen bonnie's)

you could have dozens of problems, largest is that ground path from the battery throgh the sheet metal of the chassis to the block....lots of voltage drop as the bvehicle gets older and the panels rust at the spot welds/etc.

find the starter relay and see if the problem is on the primary or secondary side....

as stated the battery is in the backseat(seemed weird to me to). if its a wiring issue or the starter that would be fine, the engine is being pulled for another build and ill be refreshing it anyway. when the key is turned to acc. everything comes on dash lights, radio ect. when the key is turned i hear a click/noise from near the battery and the electronics shut off while the key is there, no noise from the engine at all. the guy drove the car daily, he worked at my part time job so i saw the car running perfectly fine. i had thought it might be the battery but ive had a battery die in my old GTP and this is not the same symptoms(gtp had the factory battery that had turned about 10? when it finally died my lights were dim, etc.)

try jumping the starter motor yet? key to on and it should fire up.

if the starter wont jump maybe try some jumper cables hooked up to the neg terminal of the battery and to the engine block. if it then works with the key its a ground issue like turbocharged400 is saying.

alright im going back over tomorow to try to get it running, ive never jumped a started before where would you hook up the cables for that. i have tried jumping the car by the battery(which is under the backseat) and from the front where it has a terminal in the engine bay.

this guys a lot slow to get to the point of it, but he explains it well. in the end you take the 12 volt bat cable stud and brisge it to the small stud with the wire on it, and it should crank id the battery has power.
