L67 LIM Gasket Replacement Part List help, Please

03 GTP 138k mi. About a week ago I got a P0440 & didn't think much of it b/c I had been fiddling w/ vacuum lines. Last night I washed the car, pulled out, and saw smoke from under the hood w/ sickening sweet stench of coolant. Pop the hood and puddles of fluid on block in crevices near alternator. I didn't see any spray, and can't say for sure, but I think it's time to replace my LIM gasket. So my DD is parked and I need to order the parts and get it back on the road. I have read many posts and watched tutorial video on how to LIM gasket in 33min, but I want to make sure I have what I need to finish the job when I start it. I prefer to get what I can from rockauto. I see a Fel-Pro # MS98014T, which seems to be a "kit" w/ what appears to be O-rings and even T-stat housing/water outlet rubber seal and gasket. I believe I will also need a plenum gasket (upper-IM to SC), Fel-Pro # 95744, and coolant elbows, Dorman # 47065, and fluids. Can anyone verify proper part numbers, what's included w/ Fel-Pro MS98014T, let me know what else I may need, eg throttle body gasket? Also, another stupid question--I've never done this before, do I need to drain/replace SC oil? Thanks!
 


snout comes off with the whole blower no need to drain it. the TB and the T stat housing can both stay on the blower and lim if you dont want to take them off.

id check your heater hoses before you go nuts doing a lim job. lim gaskets wont spray coolant, and when the lim bolts pool up it will be dark most of the time, not green coolant. (or what ever color you have)

chances are you have the old plastic gaskets so its good to go and change them, but double check everything before you tear into it.
 
Thanks again scottydoggs. I bought the car in pretty bad shape, and have made a lot of progress in getting it safe, dependable, and sometimes even fun, but 2 things I haven't done yet are, LIM gasket and fuel filter. Now is probably the time. Its also time for a scheduled coolant change, and since I messed-up my t-stat housing bleeder screw last time, and have a clean, junk yard housing waiting, I'd like to do that too (and maybe a cheap trans-cooler), while I'm buying fluids. So, right, I did NOT see spray, which I would expect if it were a hose. However, the puddles around the bolts are quite clear, not oily/dark. I'll take another/closer look when I get home tonight. Any tips for finding the leak, without getting my face scalded off?
 
safe way is to pressure test the coolant system, you buy or rent one.

lims dont usually leak enough to leak and see and smell smoke. thats why im thinking heater hose end split, (or a coolant elbow blew) causing the smell and smoke of it burning off.
 
If its a coolant elbow, I still have to tear it down to LIM gasket right, ie by time I get coolant elbows out I'll be looking at LIM gasket, so at that point I may as well replace LIM gasket too, right? Or is there a chance I actually catch a break this time and there is a procedure for changing coolant elbows w/o removing LIM? The follow up question b/c I think one of the coolant lines seemed to have more play than the other, I didn't screw with it too much b/c it was pretty hot. I have pipe dreams of a IC in next 6-12monthes, & hoping not to have to deal with the LIM now...
 


The upper coolant elbow leaks-hoping its the only leak. I'll try to get alum. elbows in this week. I might have gotten a break. Thanks again scottydoggs!
 
Back on the road, new; alum. coolant elbows (upper was completely shot, lower looked newish), t-stat, & pcv valve. No fluid leaks:) I'll clean my air filter this weekend. Hopefully, that P0440 won't come back. BTW, I change my coolant about 15k mi ago. Drained out filthy, maybe OE, murk & put in Prestone extended life, "safe for all xyz..." coolant. I was planning on changing coolant on general purpose, but what drained out this time still looked new! I'm a believer and going to stick with the Prestone coolant. Thanks again!
