L32 to L26 intake conversion

Hi Guys,

I'm planning my engine swap and I was looking through some information and pictures and I came up with a question. I will be using the L32 and then when I am ready to overhaul the engine for the turbo, one of the mods is an L32 to L26 intake conversion so that I dont have to use the block off plate.

My Question Is: On the series 2 engines (at least the non sc), I've noticed that the tb is on the pulley side. I need that... but I will be running an L26 intake and from the pictures I've seen... that isnt possible. Should I just use the L67 instead so that when I swap the intake and run the L36 that is is correct? Or can the L26 intake be switched around to have the tb on the pulley side?

Thanks

What vehicle are you planning on doing this in??

The top picture is in a RWD Camaro/Firebird, whereas the bottom is in a W-Body...

If you get any W-body L26, L36, L32, or L67, the throttlebody/intake will be on the driver-side of the vehicle, like in the bottom picture.

I'm putting it in an 86 Fiero. The turbo will be on the left and I am wanting the tb on the right so that it fits nicer. When you drop it in the fiero, the pulleys are on the right (passenger side).

I know this is a 3400, but this is my plan;

So from the turbo, it will go behind the strut tower, to the IC below the trunk, and out the other side, into the tb where the rwd 3800 tb is.

Similiar to the below pic, except instead of going to the IC and back almost the same route.. it will go to the IC (below the trunk) and exit on the right hand side allowing it to go behind the other strut tower and into the tb on the pulley side.

The above pic is of a v8, I should have plenty of room on the right to get the ic to tb tube hooked up w/o acute angles. I'm hoping to keep all turbo tubing angles in excess of 100 degrees...

you can't really do much about that.

the UIM only goes on one way and same with the LIM.

Unless you blocked off the coolant channels and EGR in the LIM .... even then, it'd be custom.

I was going to use zzp's cnc ported heads, or are those not really "needed" for the already supercharged motor? Eventually when I overhaul the engine, I am going to use a bullseye S372 turbo and I am hoping for the 550-650 whp range. (yes, i know I need tranny mods - gmr chain, ect).

I think I should run ported heads since I am aiming at that power level, agree or do you think the stock heads are fine?

Find a machine shop first.

then talk to them.

see how they'd want to do it.

my local shop would want your stock cam, stock heads, the cam you want to run, your LIM gasket, your LIM.

They only do port and polish with gasket match.

I got an estimate of 700-800 for basic work without factoring in cracks.

Ported heads will always help but if you're serious about this build its best to have the cam matched to the heads.

Either buy vendor staged heads (too much money) or find a good machine shop.

Matt,

Oringinally I was going to use the cnc ported heads (sold by zzp) with stattama's st5 cam. I was going to use 150 lbs valve springs in the heads and the rollmaster double timing chain that zzp sells w/o a harmonic balancer. And the billet flexplate. Then I was going to use the L26 W body intake on the L32 motor. (Which I may use the F body style so I'd have more room but its not a must).

Is there a problem with that setup or is there something better you propose?

No one sells already machined heads to match stattama's cams?

I'm just asking. Or are they overpriced? I was going to buy zzp cnc heads for $1100.00, not sure if a already matched set of heads would be more cost or about the same.

All of the vendor heads are overpriced.

blue got heads that flow as well as IS3's for well under a grand IIRC.

talk to matt from stattamaaamama to see what he suggests.

then find a good machine shop and compare prices.
