L32 rod pics

For those that have never seen the L32 rods. This is the first set I got to handle and thought it was interesting. Thanks to Jared for sending them from Idaho. It was a pleasure doing business with him.

It looks like the rod bore is machined then scribed on the inside, 2 that are 180 degrees from one another.

The rod cap is removed by breaking it off. Fracture point is at the scribes.

The fracture is unique to each rod.

As you already know a typical rod may be repaired by grinding the cap down a few thousandths, torque it to the rod and resize. Why can't you grind both sides on the L32 rod and then resize. Has this been done? Will compression ratio change by enough to worry about it?

I guess it depends on how much you have to remove in the grinding process for it to be square, right? Removal of to much material will weaken the cap as well, i.e. the thickness at the bottom of the cap.
 
You can always count on Clevite for the LSx but what about the L32? Do they have a bearing for the 0.002" overbore?...or is it the same bearing as the LSx?

[TD]Looks like Sealed Power has them as well in 0.010", 0.020", 0.030" undersize. It makes sense that they would offer the +0.002" OD in the three undersizes. Gives you some options with the oversized rod. It looks like the L32 rods may be machined (resized) one time. After that they're paper weights.

I just went through this trying to put ARP rod bolts in. There is no oversize bearing option for the L32/26. Only undersize, which means you have to have the crank turned which by itself is a no no. One time use, no other options currently. I have a box of 132 dollar rod bolts sitting on my desk.
 
Get a crank that is cut -0.010"
Cut the L32 rod bore +0.002" oversized (O/S)
Install bearing +0.002 OD and undersize -0.010"

Now please explain to me why your rod bolts are still sitting on your desk.
 


They warp the rods, then require machining.

Only failed crank ive heard of was machined.

Quality machine shop is a must.
