L32 2004 GTP mods?

Hey guys. My dad's got a 2004 grand prix GTP comp G, and lately hes been talking like he wants more power out of it. I was just wondering if you guys could help me pick something out as a gift for him for christmas.

He mentioned a CAI, but they seem to want to rape you on the price wherever you look. The cheapest one with decent quality has been over $200. For a filter and separation box that's steep. I was also looking at pulleys, however for these engines I'm not sure how they respond and what supporting mods are required. (belt, fuel modification, etc...)

Basically I'm looking to see what are decent options for these cars as I'm not to familiar with them. Thanks for all input.

I have the Wizard CAI from ZZPerformance, its the only one worth purchasing. Other then that there is a TDC's FWI which is alot cheaper. You can buy his from the classified's on the main page http://www.grandprixforums.net/f51/tdcracing-fwi-6947.html

hey now! lol Thrasher is a pretty good CAI too
the best "deal" ur gonna get will be TDC racings fenderwell intake...ive heard 100% good reviews on his product...a PCM would be a good gift too. dont worry about pulleys until u get the mods to support it,which isnt expensive buts also not cheap for those.

this subject was brought up today by another member http://www.grandprixforums.net/f18/first-mods-8945.html

dont think about pullies on that motor yet. you need more breathing mods before you throw more boost at it.

If he just wants to wake it up and be done with it I would say a CAI. downpipe and PCM is a nice trio. If you guys don't want to spend that money then PCM and CAI. I really think changing my spark plugs to the Autolite 605's did just as much as the PCM, but I did the spark plugs after the dp,cai,180thermo,and pcm. My car loved the spark plug swap.

Change the supercharger oil also, if you haven't already.

you dont have to do supporting mods, but your car will like you more. in order to run a pulley that you normally would not be able to your tune is going to be one hell of a mess, as in rich as hell and no timing.

if you got the money i would highly recemend checking into some headers!!! really woke my car up. can breath much better now and then you can drop pulleys with a tune.

but to start off TDC's intake. he will really like the supercharger sound after that.

thanks for all the help guys. I just read all the pages of the TDC fwi ad, looks good. Just to verify besides the stock airbox removal and moving the PCM a few inches, nothing has to be perminantly removed, correct? (such as the fender-to-front cross member)

any more info on the PCM? I'm used to my obd1 car where I just swap eprom chips. what are the options for a new PCM? just a more aggressive tune I assume?

thanks for any info!

front to fender crossmember does not have to be removed.

Whatever you do stay away from the ZZP PCM. I've personally never had them but theres too much **** talking with them to take a chance, in my opinion. Intense are good I hear. finding someone reputable to tune it would be good (higher cost sometimes though). Overkill is a good PCM too. Alot of us with CompG's tend to lean towards the Overkill.

here is a link from the Overkill page that explains what his PCM does.

On a side note, Your Dad will most likely not be able to open it on Xmas. It will most likely take 3 weeks-1 month to accually recieve the PCM from overkill. It took 1 month to recieve my PCM. It was well worth the wait though.

Intense are good I hear.

You heard wrong.

I remeber when I found out they were doing cobalts and my friend said "Yea they blow up cobalts too"

Intense has awesome cams though. And their Race block is good too. (It's sent out to a good engine shop)
