key stuck in ignition....

car's 98 gtp so it doesnt have the key unlock button by the shifter knob. battery's new and fine. so heres the story, i just gotten home and when i turned the key to off and attempted to turn it to get the key out, it wouldnt. steering wheel's not locked either. my steering cover is not tightened so i tried to see where the ignition key release button to unlock it is but i cant seem to find/feel for it. so for now i have the key stuck in the position between the accel on and the direction to get it out. where is the ignition key release button on the steering column? left side or right side or where exactly? also any ideas on what would cause it? i read it could be the BTSI fuse? is that located in the driver kick panel fuse box?

Put you hand under the steering column and bring your back towards you by the ignition switch. I can't remember if there is a small cover you have to remove or not, but you will be able to feel the button. Somewhere there is a how to on how to remove the whole lock.

Like black18ice said, just put the steering wheel all the way up and look at the bottom side of the steering column. There should be a little round peice that can be pulled out of the cover. That gives you access to the button. You should just be able to get it with your fingers if the wheel is all the way up. That's a common problem on these cars and is usually caused by the sensor that tells the car it is in park not functioning right.

my gp does it sometimes and i just leave it in the on position and take it out of park and put it back in park and then i am able to turn the ignition back and get the keyout

thanks guys. i did as followed and took the plastic covering on the steering column then pushed the release button facing the bottom of the floor. i then disconnected the piece that goes into the key lock mechanism and now i dont have to worry about the key getting stuck anymore lol.
