Key stuck in ignition PLEASE HELP

Hi - I have an 04 grand am. On saturday I went to the store and turned my car off and the key was stuck, it will not go into the off position. I made sure it was in park, shook the wheel, hit the brake...I had a mechanic over today, he got the key out of the ignition but its still not in the off position. What can i do to fix this? Please help!!
 


Hi there.. I'm not 100% on the name of the thing.. but I'm pretty sure its called a brake transmission shifter/ignition interlock.. basically if you pull the plastic off of the steering column both top and bottom.. while setting at the wheel of the car look below the key switch and you will see a little metal tube lookin thing with like a little button on the end of it.. if you push that button the key should turn to "off" with it depressed.. its a pretty easy thing to replace at that point.. all it does is keep you from locking the column when the car isn't in park..
