key stuck and shifter button stuck 50% of the time

So sometimes when I shut my car off the key won't turn all the way to where i can take it out of the ignition. Plus when I step on the brake to shift into gear I don't hear the "click" to unlock my button on the shifter. Are these two things connected, key stuck in ignition and shifter not unlocking? And how would I go about fixing it? I pulled out the little shift lock tab next to the shifter to see if it would do anything and it did not.

there are some wires under the center console near the shifter that can break and not cause they key to be released. I forget the specific name for the thing. But under the wheel is a little round cover you can pop off then shove a small screw driver up and it frees the ignition. mines does it every so often.

you can actually tilt the wheel all the way up and press the button with your hand to release your key. to solve that problem, zip tie the button down or remove the solenoid all together.

aha. thanks guys. I actually noticed for when trying to unlock the button to shift, I have to push the little spring loaded button under the shift lock tab down somewhat far or until it bottoms out. But I guess for now ill just keep a screwdriver in my center console. lol

you can take a straw, cut it to size put it in the hole, then put that cap back on. this will keep the button pushed up till you get the wires in the console fixed up.
