K got power steering issues...

DaytonaGTP

Its not that small is it?
before i begin...
this is the original pump, rack and fluid and the car has 200k hard miles. K ive got no leaks but when its cold it whines worse than my mom. but after driving it for a while the whine goes away. checked the fluid its fine.(dumbest place to put the power steering btw) this all just started to happen right after i was driving it the other night really aggressively. my friend and previous owner told me it did this to him once when he was doin about 80+ and flew around a corner. he says something about some sensor that kicks it off when driving hard? dont know about that. im guessing it just needs a fluid change... but yeah its kinda weird... any thoughts?

it whines all the time and worse when i turn but only until the car warms up. the wheel gets stiff too sometimes but not all the time. i figure it bein old fluid its prolly really thick when its cold then thins out when its warm but idk...

The old fluid may not help. But I am going to bet you need a new steering rack. Of course, for the price of steering pumps, it wouldn't hurt to replace that as well.

But the "morning sickness" sounds like a rack issue to me. The longer you put it off, the worse it is going to be for the pump to struggle.

ugh... a rack is such a pita. well i guess my tax check is prolly goin to this then. oh well what good are mods when i cant steer the car...lol

Go to a GM dealer and ask if they still have, or can get the cold weather PS fluid. If so get it and have it change. You can suck it all out with a turkey baster on your own, you have to do it a couple times to get it all of course.

If not, do the same thing above using new PS fluid. Try it.

If that does not work, I suspect the pump is going.
