Just some opinons for hand guns

Soo i narrowed it down to what i want for a pistol, Btw my main purpose is for target practicing and home defense i suppose even though a fist or bat would do just fine.

This is what i'm most likely going to get, its a smith and wesson M&P Compact, No what i cannot decide is what size do i want to go with, eaither .357 or .40, Both calibers hold the same ammount of rounds 10 in the clip plus 1 in the chamber. They both cost the same the gun that is. It's $656 Which i don't find to be to expensive. I'm pretty sure .40 ammo is kind of expensive and i'm sure .357 is too. But i dont know which caliber i would want more.

Here are a couple other hand guns i would like to get but idk.

Here is a sig, which the U.S. Navy and the Marines use and i belive the chinese police use them too.

And here is my other favorite handgun The walter p99

And for someday the desert eagle, which i would want in 50 ae(action express) i guess the israley's made something good, besides the uzi but that probably could of done the world a favor and never been made but hell it's the person who pulls the trigger.

For home defense, Without a doubt the best bet is a shotgun. And for target pratcing the best bet would be a .22 becuase the ammo is cheap is dirt.

With that out of the way,

I'm guessing you don't like Glock? I just bought a Glock 19 (9mm) for personal cary and I like it very much. My roomate also just bought a glock 23 (identical besides his being a .40) wich I like very much.

The recoil difference is only noticable if you shoot them one after another.

I carry a glazer safty slug along with HPT hollow points. Mainly becuase of the small caliber of the gun and if i'm trying to stop someone from hurting me i'm going to need those with a 9mm.

Just giving you some feedback on the guns I have shot and owned.

But to answer you're question I would go with a 40 caliber. It is the new 9mm. The 40 cal ammo will run about 26 bucks and the 9mm will run about 16.

Thanks for your opinon! Well i allready have a 12ga pump shotgun 870 express and i do have a ruger .22 semi auto i have a 30 round magazine for it and thats a pretty fun gun to pop around with.

Idk about glock, i kind of like the look but then again i dont like the boxy look, i know that doesnt really make any sence. But my friend just got one too, i think he got it in 10mm but i'm not sure. He also has a consealed license and he can carry that around it around in public. What is the deal with that anyways ? Any curtin rules you have to follow by ? I know he said you can really Show it off like have it out in the open but idk. He just got a holster for it and its called a jack a$$.

But yeah i think a .40 would be perfect, that would defently stop someone in there tracks. I wouldnt mind getting myself a open consealed license myself, i have a clean record and yeah I'm young but i wouldnt pull any stupid stuff. But dam You gotta be dam sure that you realize what your doing before you blow someone away. You shoot some bad guy in the leg i wouldnt want to look over my sholders everywhere i go i want him dead. But that has nothing to do with what This thread is about so yeah.

Check you're state laws. That's you're best bet.

I know in GA you can cary any hand gun in a holster on you're side,In a locked compartment in you're car or in the open in you're car with no license. I know in GA you can not be within a certain number of feet 300 i think when carring a hand gun from a school zone enless you live so many feet from it.

You can get a concealed cary permit and put it where ever you want. Here it was 45 bucks and you get them at the court house.

I like the M&P I was actually thinking of getting one before i decieded on the Glock

I am ordering my 40 M&P in a few weeks, .357 is not needed, the .40 will do just fine for a back-up sidearm. I only got the M&P due to the price( cannot disclose sorry) I already own a walther p38, 1941 triple nazi stamped, that I will use if needed if not its a collector piece however its a very nice gun for its age.

I got a 20ga for home defense and a 12 ga slug gun.

Id get the sig or the S&W, you cannot go wrong with either company.

Ryan if you are near scarborough go check out cabelas, we run alot of firearm specials and deals. I can also ship you any firearm we have in our store.

.40 would be good enough unless you want the over kill of the 357? i cant remeber the lengh difference between the two rounds but 40 should shoot faster and experience less jams then with the longer 357 round. as far as which brand i dont know there?

Personally for me, I found having a shotgun as a home defense weapon was just much. Why? Unless you have a riot style shotgun with a collapsed rear stock or cut off and a shorter barrel? You are gonna play hell wielding that thing around in your house. When I was still in Law Enforcement we actually ran senarios based on that involving different handguns, shotguns and rifles. And in almost every instance the "home owner" with shotgun never got off a shot, or it would miss the intended target and hit something else in the house.

Me personally I always had my Ruger GP100 357 and my duty pistol, a Beretta 9mm. I also had a Ruger P85 (old school baby :) ) and a Taurus 92AF stached about the old apartment.

The one thing we found that was the best home security weapon was the compact .22 or .25 caliber semiautos or a snubnose .38. For the simple reason they were easy to grab and control in more stressful situations. Like when a robber actually enters your house and threatens your well being. Plus those little rounds once they enter body do some real damage. Think of the .22 or .25 round as a pinball and the body cavity as the pinball machine. I think you get the point ;)

I personally want a H&K USP .40 cal myself :)

a .40 is just enough power to wound a person to the pont where they can run away.

for having a certain person in the family with an arsenal....

my favorite is by far the desert Eagle .50cal. but that sucker is HEAVY. the recoil is nuts!

I would honestly go with a 44magnum! do you feel lucky punk?

for home prtection a .40cal will be more than adequite. I preferr more stopping power... but thats just me.

^^^ its all in the ammo you use, my .40 with hollow points can stop just about anything. if you can get a round similar to the .223 and its destructiveness then go for it.

The .50 cal is a very unnessecary handgun, its too big and bulky and the recoil is friggin nuts. I prefer the AR-50 but that recoil is enough to launch me off the bench and im @ 180lbs.

id get a gauge for home defense, we sell plenty of home defense shotguns ready to go w/ tactical pistol grips for the pump and stock, folding stocks ect.

If you want I will offer my knowledge, jsut get me some specific makes and models and Ill do my best.

For the record I am a master marksman thru the US ARMY and have qualified as a master again for the civilian competition. Just PM me and ill do the best I can and can also find the best bang for the buck.

^^^Thanks. I wasnt bad at target practicing But i love shooting my bushmaster because using the peep sights are awsome. Well i just found that it's much cheaper to buy the smith and wesson m&p from another site than s&w website. I found one for $494.99 comes with two clips a nice case etc. That seems like a good price for a handgun from a good name and size of caliber.

I got my .40 M&P S&W brand new from S&W for 189.99.

I am looking and training on the springfield armory XD series, more then likely ill get into one of those for around 199 bucks.

The bushmasters are nice but they are too bulky for an AR, EAgle Arms has an AR that is 100% identical to the M16A2. I use my .223 EA strictly for varmints.

Ryan, what county are you in and what are the handgun laws in Maine? I think you are a CCP state( conceal carry permit)

You want a sick ass handgun, get a S&W .357 Hammerless Snub nose. OMFG thats the hottest girls ive ever laid hands on.
