naa, these trans are a dime a dozen, especially for the GT's, so even if ya pop it you can get em from the bone yard for under 400 normally and swap one in a good saturdays time, there not really to bad to do even if your a novice wrencher, and with the writeups and expertise on this site we could guide ya through it pretty quick. As for preventive maintance take it to a decent shop (not "Joes Auto Repair and Fried Chicken") and have a trans flush and filter done with a flush machine, not a drain/filter/fill, but a true flush and use a quality trans fluid like Mobil 1 or equal, if anything it should drastically help for the time being
Edit- its about a 80/20 split on for and againest trans flushes, but if you flush one thats slipping like no other, it will go out. If its just showing wear signs it will help! I work in a pretty good name shop and do 10-12 trans flushes a week, and NEVER have flushed a trans and had it come back with issues, unless it was already slipping bad or showing severe signs of fail, in your case do it!
