Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

Just got a 2004 comp g GTP. time to mod... help?

GTPboosted

Hey guys, new member here.
Picking up my GTP come next week. I actually got a pretty badass deal on it. Asking $7000 for a fully loaded 04 comp g with 69,000 orig miles. still working out the price but I should get it cheaper than that. As of now its completly stock but I'd like to have some fun with it. Sold my SVT focus for it. Still iffy about that decision (6spd + awesome suspesion VS boosted automatic sedan) but we'll see! This will be my DD.
I have a Highly modified mid 12sec mustang. She's kind of a jack-stand queen, but a beast while actually on the road ;) So Im not new to the car scene by any means and I am mechanically inclinded. This is my first time working with a root style SC albeit, but I'll learn fast.

I Guess my goal for the GTP would be a 13.7-14.2 DD. 13s would be better, but I'll see what you guys think.. Something that is fun to drive yet hasnt lost drivability.

Ive done plenty of reading and am trying not to make an unecessary post, but would like some clarification to ease my mind. Here is what I've planned, in order.
-180 tstat
-K&N drop in
-Ill probably take off the Manifold and port/de-bur it myself
-Autolite 104s
-headers
-Pulley swap. 3.4 or 3.6? boost differences? will a different tensenior pulley be necessary for both?
-Tune. --The guy that dyno tunes my mustang will tune the GTP, but its damn expensive.. $500+/hour. (Hes the ****in' man) or a downloadable tune. Is there really a difference with light mods like this or would a dyno tune just be overkill?

What kind of gains/times are expected from a light setup like this? thanks in advance! sorry for the novel, im just damn excited to get started haha!!:th_biggrin2:

-180 tstat > wait until your tuned for it
-K&N drop in. >Save your money and build your own
-Ill probably take off the Manifold and port/de-bur it myself. > No point if you go the header route
-Autolite 104s > 606s will be fine
-headers
-Pulley swap. 3.4 or 3.6? > 3.6 is good with this setup boost differences? Hard to say but you'll want to stay knock free and chances are slim if you run the 3.4. will a different tensenior pulley be necessary for both? Nope use the stock one
-Tune. --The guy that dyno tunes my mustang will tune the GTP, but its damn expensive.. $500+/hour. (Hes the ****in' man) or a downloadable tune. Is there really a difference with light mods like this or would a dyno tune > this is what we call a basic set up that being said a mail order tune will do just fine no need to spend all that on a dyno tune with just these mods

Let me take a wild guess and say the comp g is red isn't it

^ gotcha yea do that. Oh and change the VC gaskets and change to aluminum elbows while your at it. Easier to take care of it beforehand and not worry about it.

its actually silver:p
thanks guys, all good information. what kind of times will a "basic setup" net with a good tune? using the 3.6 pulley.
is an intercooler something to consider?

Best I ever pulled was 13.5 @ 105mph on street tune, all season radials and 93 octane. Car is daily driver, I emptied the trunk but nothing else.

I have VS cam, headers, gen 5, North Star and 206,000 miles.

They're out there just gotta be patient and look outside your area. The older and older these cars get the hardest it is to find a lower mileage one.

I've been searching for a GTP with less then 100k Miles for quite some time now but no luck. =/

When I started shopping to trade in my NA car, I found one with 30k miles on that I missed by a few hours. I called about it and the owner told me that they drove away in it literally 3-4 hours before I called. Then I found one at 95k, one at 92k, and one at 60k. I bought the 60k one... they're like, all over the place. I had to drive about 2 hours to get this one, though.. so yeah look outside your area and be willing to go for a day trip.

I used AutoTrader to find it.

To OP: Dont use the drop in! Take out the stock tubing and build an intake with some piping and put an AEM cone on it. (Can you still get them $20 shipped on ebay?) You'll want the blower whine, it's part of the experience!

You'll wanna go for the 3.6" pulley first, the supercharger on your car is a Gen V which is loads more efficient than the Gen III that was on pre-04 cars, so you'll essentially get more boost out of a bigger pulley. If you can go knock-free on a 3.6, you can start modding for the 3.4.

I dont think you really need an IC for what you're doing, but I guess cooling the charge doesn't hurt at any boost level? I just dont know if it'll be worth the price tag. If you go for the 3.4, you might need it on the Gen V.
