• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

Just broke my cowl! Grrrrr...

:th_angry2: Whether or not I attempt the HUD conversion (and all of a sudden my enthusiasm for that project got dialled waaay back!), I'm now committed to replacing my cowl! Bad enough it split into so many pieces I can't count 'em (thank you no much, Sun, for mercilessly degrading the plastic), bad enough my photosensor came loose and I can't fit it in properly (though it is in at the moment)... but I can't even get the shards to budge away from the windscreen! One section, on the passenger side; that was it! And I can't free the rest of the cowl, not without knowing some tricks you guys have figured out by now...

...and by the way: I did not find any harness for the HUD; if I do that one after all, I'll pull a salvage dash... assuming I don't break that cowl as well! :p

This was 200% on me, poking around!

On a different subject, I'm trying to get my car's picture on my signature, but it won't come up; what am I doing wrong?

I think my computer was being deliberately obtuse; took me three tries before I found the cowl on newgmparts.com... odd, though, that non-HUD cowls (aka upper dash trim) are almost $100 more than HUD versions!

This or something equivalent against the window side.
The prybar is what I used. Set in place and twist slowly to break the seal and work your way from passenger to driver side.

And is that just the HUD shroud or the upper trim panel? Because on that site it presented as the upper trim... Thought that was way too cheap for such a big part...

I found a salvage panel that didn't explode when I lifted it up; unfortunately, its connection to that foam rubber base is proving to be stubborn, and I don't have that tool (yet!) or a good enough facsimile, so would a good razor blade work well enough to cut the rubber loose?

I don't know anything about a revised part number, so couldn't tell ya.

But yes the HUD pod is part of the long piece that spans across the whole length of the dash.

According to the guy I just talked to at New GM Part, it is revised, and also the complete cowl! Also includes the HUD shroud; I asked about that explicitly! So for those with cracked shrouds, it's around $73, with <$28 in shipping! Bargain, compared to other parts... :D

Does anyone know what the revision level is? Or how to tell from the part? The cowl I just received has a manufacturing date in 2004...

EDIT: Nevermind. Found the Genuine GM sticker on the box with the revised part number. And the previous rev is more expensive so not like someone is buying and repackaging them.
