Just bought series 3 SC motor.

I just bought a series 3 SC motor from a 06 grand prix. I know it's missing the fuel rails injectors and throttle body. But I got the motor extremely cheap. My plan is to top swap my current motor and get my transmission rebuilt (found a good deal from a reliable local source). I was just wondering what are the basics I'm going to need for this top swap. My car is a 03 LE. I need to know if I need to swap alternators and power steering pumps stuff like that. Also if anyone has a thread for a mild build plan please give me the link I'd appreciate it. I hope to hear everyone's opinion :th_thumbsup-wink:

Why not just drop the whole new motor in? I'm a fan of topswaps, but if you grabbed a whole motor thats probably a better option. All you would need is a n* throttle body and adapter or l67 tb adapter plate, both on zzp and l67 fuel rails and maybe some better injectors. Everything else should work.

I have thought of it very much so. Buy apparently the motor was going to need a rebuild. But me and my dad think it just needs all new valve cover gaskets. It was obviously having oil leak out from there. And another issue is my car is a 03 so I can't put that motor with my tranny I'll need a 04 and up

you sure can use it all. you need to swap the tranny shiftier thing, pnp iirc. then its all golden.

if the bottom end was not rapping id use that over a n/a block any day.

So wait. Say that again? Cuz I heard only 03 motor will bolt up to a 03 tranny. Same with 97

you heard lies!!!!

the only difference is the shifter from a 03 is inside the tranny cover where the older tranny had this black box. you change that part over and it all works.

the engine blocks and trannys are all the same 97- 08. the only real difference is the gears. gtp and n/a gp's have different gears in the trannys.

if you had a non hd tranny (n/a) and change to a HD tranny, you need the pcm tuned for the gear change.

or just put the new engine on your cars n/a tranny. just dont beat on it to much or it wont last so long.

Ah okay okay I heard something like the valve body's in the tranny or something like that is different. So if you were me honestly what would you do with this motor?

if the whole engine runs use it. if the tranny works use it too.

pretty sure you can ship your pcm to zzp, or buy one from them with the gear change made for you. and a mild tune to help wake the stock engine up.

that is you cant find a local off here to help you out with the tuning part. you live in a hot bead of w body people, im sure you can find some one.

Great advice from scotty, I'd take it. Best option for reliability and performance imho.

if you top swap you need headers right out of the box. swapping the sc engine in there you can run the stock manifolds still if you want. theres 250 saved, the tunes are what 100 bucks or so? theres your tune money lol

I don't know about needing headers... I'm running a 3.6 on a ported gen 3 on a hi comp engine. Depending in the car you might get away with the 3.8 on a gen v. But, I'd rather swap the motor bc then you already have the pulley and belt setup and a newer motor ready to go.

you know how it goes, every engine takes mods differently. as long as its not knocking deal. im sure your tuned tho.

with a top swap for safety you want to let it exhale better. aka add headers during the top swap. or plog and 3 inch dp. (costs 4 bucks more than headers) all speed daddy parts that is. more if your shopping elsewhere.

Currently have 3 inch catted zzp downpipe and plog on my car. But motor came with no tranny

drop that engine in and mate it up to your tranny. re use that plog and dp.

iirc it will run just fine off the stock n/a pcm, but in the end it should be tuned.

What's iirc?? You think a returned pcm from zzp or 3800 would do just fine until I find a good tune? And would I obviously get one for a gtp? And for the 06 motor correct? And headers fit all 97-08 GP right?

if i remember correctly. =iirc

headers fit all of the engines too na or sc. like i said, the blocks are all the same.

you can tune your n/a pcm. or have one sent to you. you just need to tell them whats been done to it. your story. l32 into a n/a o3 3800 swap.

that engine has no clue its a o6 or a 97. they run the same what ever car its in. what i mean is the engine has no brains, it dont know where its new home is, nor will it care lol

your gonna need a few little things like change the harness to a supercharged map sensor,( just a new pig tail) a tb adapter to get your tb on the gen 5 blower (cause its not the same bolts pattern) then route the pcv so it works as well. all easy little crap.

^this. Member booba has an l32 in his 2000 gtp. Other than inj rails a tb plate talked like it was stock for stock swap. You could always rebuild your l36 shortblo k whilw running the l32 then do topswap when it pops :)
