Hello everyone.

Heh, I hate for my first post to be a cry for help, but here it is:

Pretty much, I bought a 1997 Pontiac SE 3.8L from a private party and I knew it had at least 2 problems. 1: RUST. It was a minnisota car so it has pretty good car cancer on the sides and some on the trunk and hood lining. 2: TRANNY. The PO said that the transmission coolant line is leaking tranny fluid. I knew that and bought 2 bottles of fluid before I bought the car. Anyways, he had the car listed at $800, and I talked him down to 700 (rust and such). I even bought the line needed to fix it (at least thats what the people at advanced auto told me i needed). Well, I put tranny fluid in it and prepared for the drive home. Now before I get flammed I had driven my parent's 1988 S10 Blazer 4.3L vortec blazer when it was slipping and it drove an amazing 50 miles home. So, that said, I prepared for a 6 mile drive through Huntsville, TX. It had a full amount of fluid..so the dipstick said. Anyhow, I drove it home and the speed decreased SO bad that I was doing 35mph in a 65mph zone. YES i had my flashers on..YES I was being honked at. It kept hunting for a gear and was slipping like mad. But yeah, about a mile from home, I called AAA to have me towed home (FREE!!!). Why 1 mile from home? Oh yeah, the car was overheating. When I went home my car marked its territory with 3 pee marks; tranny fluid, oil and..coolant. I tried putting new coolant in, but it went through the poor car. :th_sick1:

So I have a few questions to ask about it;
Could the tranny coolant line be the only fix the transmission needs to be fixed so it wont slip? (When i put more fluid in, it runs GREAT. So great in fact, I accidentally screeched the tires xD). Also, does anyone have a radiator they can sell near Huntsville, TX or would be willing to ship? :th_biggrin2:

I have no clue how to work on this car..I used to own a old school modified '86 MR2..super fast. Heh...I tried driving the GP like my old car..I took a turn at MR2 speed (35mph in a 90 degree left hand turn and got mad tire squealing.).

Any help is appreciated!
Thank you!

I have a stock radiator from my 99" gt, im willing to ship. The rad is in perfect working condition. $45 plus shipping? pm me if interested.

hmm..probably won't be able to buy it anytime soon. Im in the process of setting up a bank account (just got a new job and moved to texas).

Your transmission issues should cease once you get the leak fixed and the fluid filled back up. And, as far as oil spots, check the valve covers and see if they are leaking. Also check the oil pan gasket. They tend to leak a little bit, too.

is there a write up or at least a diagram to show where the hose is?
I have NO idea where it is >.<

I have some tools to work on it, but as far as figuring out what the line is, im clueless. It only leaks when the car is on and the tranny fluid is hot.

BTW its the transmission coolant line. Advanced auto parts gave me 2 or 3 feet of it to work with. I'll probably tackle it tomorrow before I go to work if it's not too hard...
