Is this too cheap for a rebuild

I decided that while the engine is out of my '99 GT I will do a transmission swap as well. I have never driven the car due to rod knock when I bought it, but it does have 199xxx miles on it. I have sourced several transmissions through car-part and most are over 100K for around $500. There is a local transmission shop who said that if I bring my transmission to them they will rebuild it for $650. This would include a 1 year unlimited mileage warranty.

I know the old saying that if something seems to good to be true.... But is it possible to do this at that price?

If they back it for one year, I say that is worth a go.

I hope it's not a Cottman Transmission... I got bent over by them... royally.

It's a small locally owned shop. I can't seem to find anything about them on a google search except one complaint. I just though that the parts alone to rebuild a 4T65E would cost more than the price quoted.

Ask what is included in the rebuild.

Clutches, steels and chain will probably cost that shop about $150. With the trans already out, it's maybe an hour to an hour and a half of work to replace only the clutches.

You want a hardened 4th hub shaft, likely $40 for them.
You want a new PCS ~$50 for them.

Question is..do they clearance the clutch packs, do they do the seals? Do they open it up and see the input piston bad and start whacking you more moola

Thanks Bill. I kinda made up my mind not to let them work on it. But for sh*ts and grins I will have to call them and see what they say when I actually sound like I might know what I'm talking about.
