Is my car worth a rebuild?

Ok so this is the issue I am facing, I have the p1811 code, max adapt, long shift, 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix GT, 151000kms. All the shops in town tell me I need a rebuild. One shop said they'd install an oversized valave body for $400 and that would solve it but I don't think so. Some shops say $1900-2400 with 1 year 20,000kms warranty, other say $2000-3000 with 2 year 40,000kms warranty. I want to know if my car is worth this repair bill, should I drive it until it break then repair or sell it while I can?

Other issues i've noticed are that the steering wheel is slightly crooked when the tires are straight, the accelerator pedal is pretty stiff and the car burn about a litre or quart of oil between oil changes.

Of course shops are going to tell you it needs a rebuild, thats how they make max. profit. They dont want to do a measly couple hundred doller repair.
As for you question weather or not your car is worth the repair bill, that is a question only you can answer, There are alot of variables.

I think you should check out Tripledgeperformance for your transmission needs.

Well here's the thing, I'm not mechanically inclined, guilty as charged bit does that really mean I'm at the mercy of tranny shops? One option is to drive til it dies, but then what? The car is a beauty but it burns some oil and has an accelerator issue so I don't know, wanted to get some second opinions from grand prix owners

I'd check for an oil leak around the pan before you decide its burning the oil (maybe you have though)
As for the tranny, I'd try to find a lower mileage used one then sell yours to someone who will rebuild it for themselves

Save for a trans. or get one from a jy $2000 new or around $450 used

Clean the TB. I'd bet this will help or completely fix the stiff accelerator pedal issue. Free

1 quart between changes is considered normal loss by GM. Are your valve covers leaking yet? Could be dripping out there and gettinfg burnt off by the exhaust manifolds.

Get a front end alignment- $70

Not too bad if you ask me. I'd keep it. Even though you aren't mech. inclined you can still do simple things like removing/cleaning the TB and replace valve cover gaskets and grommets. We could help guide you through that easy enough.

Here are a couple pictures of the little troublemaker:

If I was in your situation I would save the money and get a trans rebuild. Your car's km is about average for your year so your car is probably worth about $5,000. I have a 02 GP GT and I had got my trans rebuilt last year at 97,000 miles (which is about the same miles as u in Km). I only paid $1650 for a 2 year 24,000 mile warranty. So i see its more money up there in canada but the trans rebuild will be well worth it if u want your car to last long and if u keep up with the maintenance.
