Is it the tranny or an electrical issue?

My '99 with 93k has recently thrown a p1811 code indicating a tranny issue.
I took into the shop because it seemed to slip out of gear and/or start to stall while driving. This happened twice - once on a 30mpg street, one doing 70 on a highway.

Two years ago I had the air flow sensor replaced and the wiring harness spliced because of chafing issues.

Is it possible that my car is throwing a false p1811 because of an electrical issue or does p1811 always mean tranny?

By the way since the garage cleared the code the Service Engine light came back on but then went out by itself. Since the Engine light has been off and I have driven it for five days without any problem.

I would hate to pay for a new tranny if it's an electrical problem. Like-wise I would hate to pay for a new electrical system if it is the tranny.

The trans oil is good. I had a garage check out the stalling situation and their diagnostic machine is the one that retrieved the p1811. The garage spoke with a transmission specialist who said they see this situation quite often and that a rebuild is the only way to go.

I have read about others who experienced a similar situation but they usually indicated that their car shifted roughly. That is one symptom I have not experienced and that is what is making me question the tranny theory.
