is it my alternator?

the problems i'm having:

1) when at a stop light. my lights dim. as soon as i start to go. they get bright again!

2) i have a hissing sound coming from that side. no noise while just rolling. but when i'm on the gas pedal. i get a hissing sound?

it's possible that the alternator is gone.

watch out because it could take out your battery as well if it gets as bad as mine...

Yeah mine did that...every time I'd get to idling it down dim...I'd lose about 2 volts watching the volt meter. I swapped out the alternator after about a week of dealing with that and now I sit just over 14.5 Volts...so I am happy

alright, well. taking it to the dealer this week. i looked over my warrenty! and under electrical. it list Alternator at the top!

just curious...... how much they run?

Heh, probably like 180-220 depending on where you get them...mine was free since I bought one when I got the car...warranty FTW

the dealer will charge hours of install and parts...so when looking at a job like your it was probably around 30 min job so about $60 in labor and $375 in parts?...

so $488 is a lot. compared to buying and installing yourself which would run about half or less...i am not a fan of stealerships. i think they just rip you off! but you had your warr. so you got away good.

^believe me. i would of done the job. BUT, for 100 bucks of my deductable. there was no way to get a alt that cheap.


plus, a 2day free rental!

Yeah the only way I would take my car to the deal is if it was under warranty like yours. Rentals are fun! The $1800 I saw on a commercial. This company sells extended warranties, that was one of there selling points. I have no clue what they are driving that it would cost that much. Maybe a Prius?
