Irratic RPM's at cruising speed (40-60mph)

Doesn't seem serious but it is annoying. warming or warmed up my 2002 GP SE 3100 surges 2-3k rpm's when at cruising speeds. If I kick it into 3rd from drive it goes away. It seems like if it's "lugging" even a little it will start jump around (at about 2k rpm's). Other than this issue, at 145k miles it's one of the nicest running cars I've had in the past decade. Any advice or suggestions will be appreciated.

My 01 gt was doing the exact thing at 131k nothing short of a rebuild fixed it.
