intercooler on stock engine?

Did some research but couldn't really find the info I was looking for so do you guys think it would be beneficial to run a short stack ic on my 99 gtp for a quick gain instead of going the traditional route?(headers, tune, pulley, etc) I'm thinking intercooler then maybe plog and dpipe/ubend and pulley drop. Is it possible to run ssic on the stock tune? Is it worth it? What would I be looking at in terms of gains? I'll have to do lim gasket soon anyways so tearing apart isn't a huge deal. Thanks!

Honestly, I wouldn't even bother. Unless you're planning on going deep into the racekar status mods it is not necessary.

Well I assume all your KR would be gone and you could advance the timing a bit. But honestly, just get headers. They are so cheap now-a-days.

I have a friend with a completely stock 99 gtp with a full stack on it. No kr at all with 5 added degrees of timing, stock was 10. Made a huge difference and is a whole new car. Nothing wrong with doing it. Headers should be thrown into the mix to notice even more gains with every added mod after that though. As to with a stock tune, my friends kr was completely gone and he noticed probably 15 whp tops. The tune was where the biggest difference of all was noticed. Tuning is everything. If you don't plan on modding anything further than that it would more or less just expensive.

That's a lot of mods for someone that's got 8 posts^^^^^ Id like to see pictures of this car and see how the nitrous setup is.

As for the IC cost wise for 800 bucks I'd certainly do headers and rockers pulley down to a 3.4 for that 800ish price.

Just me personally I've always looked at the IC for these cars a supporting mod to look even after doing a cam and its certainly not the place it would start! Much better areas could use the money in parts. Also its very very hard to argue 200 dollar headers are not the single best mod you can buy and worth every penny of 200 dollars.

Depends on what your goals for the car are ultimately.

I love people who think the number of posts you have coincides with anything to do with mods on a car. You live in Mn? So do I. Send me your address ill come over......

Not much, sorry I hate to throw a thread off topic. Number one pet peve is the ol post comparison to mod list its immature and unnecessary and has absolutely nothing to do with it in any case, but yes I live in Minneapolis.

Easy to fix if you would back it up with some pictures and info is all. Reason I was asking is to see the nitrous setup as not many people use it.

Way to blow up spaz........

Like I said it is really the only thing that sets me off is hearing the one line you used. No problem though, I do apologize. And also for being a part of throwing this thread off topic.

No problem I don't have a problem answering questions however we can pm or something else as this is not my thread to taking over. This is my kit I bought http://www.3800performance.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=ZEX-KIT
But as you can tell by the picture I posted I modified the set up to come in after the SC. I have heard it is bad for the rotors but I don't have any evidence of this. I used a different valve zex also sells with different jets. I actually used parts off of a meth set up. It is activated by WOT only. I have it equivalent to a 75 shot. It is the most my set up can do. Also in my sig as well as stating tuned by HP tuners.

The thing is if I go with zzp, intercooler, plog, down pipe, pulley and ubend delete will run me ~$1020. Headers and pulley are still going to be ~$700. So is the extra $300 to go intercooled worth the power gain? I could see it being much safer for kr on a daily

Well I assume all your KR would be gone and you could advance the timing a bit. But honestly, just get headers. They are so cheap now-a-days.

Horrible advice right here.

The gain from headers is really quite invisible over a stock manifold/downpipe setup for 99.9% of the guys out there... Without the correct cam to take advantage of the new exhaust harmonics you are not gaining anything other than a non restrictive downpipe when switching to headers.

An intercooler on the other hand will allow you to safely make MUCH more power through the entire powerband regardless of what cam you have... Gains would be in the 30whp range conservitively on a stock car with a pulley change.

No kr at all with 5 added degrees of timing, stock was 10.

considering 16 degrees is stock timing... You actually lost a degree over a stock tune.

As to with a stock tune, my friends kr was completely gone and he noticed probably 15 whp tops. The tune was where the biggest difference of all was noticed. Tuning is everything. If you don't plan on modding anything further than that it would more or less just expensive.

Tuning is the most overrated mod for horsepower. You are not going to find magical horsepower in adding a ton of timing (in most cars, save some of the more aggressive cam setups), air fuel is quite rich stock and leaning it out will mean extra power in some properly octaned or intercooled cars... but it wont be anything you should be able to feel on the ass dyno.

For the price of an intercooler you could a header/cam setup. Im sure someone with more knowlege will chime in, but im pretty sure you ll get better gains goin that route instead of straight intercooling.... Also tuning isnt for getting a magically number, but its really for makin sure your car is runnng coreectly, and allows u to get to that alimighty pulley drop.
