Inter. Fan motor runs w/out key

Hello All,

Its been a while. My first posting here was about a coolant leak that was hard to find. Turns out it was the PLASTIC coolant elbows.

New problem; I went out to the car to roll up windows and found the radio on, interior fan running. I put the key in and started the engine, turned it off, moved key from acc. to on and no change. Had to disconnect the battery to shut the fan off. WTF? Can I assume it is a bad ignition mech?
( 2002 3.8 V6, automatic all stock.)
Thanks in advance for any help/suggestions.

(Also, is there a thread on why the hell the tail lights are de-laminating and replacements? Talk about cheap!)

This ^^^^

Your ignition switch could be causing the problems. It might be going bad or the RAP module or relay could be going bad as well. THe RAP is what temporarily keeps your accessories powered up when you remove your key from the ignition until you open your door or exceeds the preset time, then shuts off.

Thanx sic6.

Are you talking about a main relay or a smaller one, and pardon the ignorance, but what does R A P stand for? I am still new to doing my own work on this car. My CRX I understand, but this vehicle is way more complicated.:(

Any way to eliminate these by simple checks, or is replacing one by one the only way to do it?

Thanks in advance.

Scott

Thanks CTKGPO9,

But tinting won't eliminate the cracks that are appearing. What cheap crap!

Another point I forgot about was that the fan speed selector would not shut off the fan! (DUH) I forgot about that until I looked at it again. I guess that is another part that is wearing out.:(

Try pulling the fuses for the components that stay on. If they still stay on after you pull the fuse then you my friend have a short to power somewhere in the car which is keeping everthing on.

Your fans stay on for almost a minute after you turn the car off in order to assist with cooling the engine. This is normal and happens anytime your car reached the point for the fans to come on during driving. Fans can come on at different temps depending on your PCM setup.

Actually they may only stay on if you have an re-programed PCM. I can't remember on a stock one. Its been so long since I've had a stock PCM. But my fans are always running as I am getting out of my car and walking off, so I see it as normal.:th_thumbsup-wink:

Thanks rynoman03,

I'll check it out. Can you tell me under which topic the subject is before I join to view it?

It is the interior fan guys, not the radiator fan.

Thanks for the help!

Scott

Blower motor resistor seems to be the common cause of this according to the thread at KCPMC.

Okay,

Well to sum up, it was the relay. It had to be pulled and replaced. The part cost about $70.00! It had melted and shorted out.

Thanks for the help, everyone!:th_thumbsup-wink::th_thumbsup-wink:

Regards,

Scott
