Hey guys..new to the forum but not vehicles and ****..Ive been on the truck forums for years with my bagged truck and tahoe, but im trying to help out my gfs little bro..He just got a 04 grand prix with the Monsson system and I ordered a headunit for him..Pioneer avh-4300. I started reading and realized its not just a straight up install like most of the older stuff is..

What am i going to have to do to get the thing wired up right? He doesnt care about door chimes, but I heard i would have to run a 12v and ground and put it on a switch to turn the deck on and off if i dont buy the $80 harness? Is that right?

any heads up you can give me would be great..thanks a bunch

I don't think you should take that route as far as not using a "true" harness. I have one that I can sell for cheap. He'll wanna keep the chimes, you lose more than the door chimes you lose the warning ones as well. PM me if you want it.

For my non-monsoon non-onstar setup, I used a metra 97-2003 and couldn't find an ignition switched source, so I ran that wire on the metra harness to the switch I have for my gauges which are always on when the car is. If it makes any difference, my head unit is a Pioneer AVIC-D3.

I watched this guys videos a few times before making the decision to do it. http://youtu.be/jpYtPSkVbyI

Use that information at your own risk.

The right way to do it is buying a wiring harness that MSRP is around $120. You can generally find them for around $60 if you search.
