Installation of a wideband bung

Sudden

New member
The instructions that came my AEM 30-4110 AFR gauge says put the bung "at least 18 inches downstream from the exhaust port." That puts it in my downpipe between the flex and the cat. Does that sound right?

TIA

i got mine in the rear o2 location post cat, works fine there. also seen pics of them installed in the down pipe pre cat, in the goose neck area on sd headers.

If I mount it between the flex and the cat it will be 18". I just need to see if there's room to get the right angle.

A wideband can never be behind the cat converter, just keep that in mind.

The in tailpipe dyno style fuel ratio readers are worth thousands of dollars and can read far better than a o2 sensor style, but we won't get into that.

Just had mine welded in yesterday. Put it in the downpipe before the cat about 6-10 inches. Reading good so far. I'll take a pic when I get home and post it up. I found a few threads on here that have some pics in the same spot so that's where I went.

I put mine in the secondary 02 sensor post cat as well (I do not have a cat). It reads fine AND is protected. Remember, the perfect spot wont matter if the sensor isnt somewhat protected from road debris.

There is nothing wrong with putting the o2 after the cat.

With SD headers, I used either the front o2 bung, or the rear, or both.

With stock manifolds, I used the rear o2 bung.

Yeah I put mine in the goose neck before the cat if you put it after the cat it's probably not going to be as accurate

It matters where you mount them per almost all widebands that can be bought. But I guess if you want to have the risk of skewed readings, install it after the converter.

A weld-in M18 X 1.5 boss is supplied for sensor installation. Mount the O2 sensor in the exhaust system at least 18 inches
downstream from the exhaust port. If you anticipate high EGT's (over 800C), run a turbocharger, run at high RPM for extended periods of time or plan on running leaded race fuel then you must mount the sensor at least 36 inches or more downstream of the exhaust port as all of these can cause the sensor to overheat. On turbocharged engines the UEGO sensor must be installed after the turbo charger, if not, the pressure differential will greatly affect the accuracy of the unit. For accurate readings, the sensor must be mounted before catalytic converters and/or auxiliary air pumps.

Innovate says the same.

Yeah, there is probably a little difference. But, I drove a lot of miles with 2 widebands...one before and one after. They were never more than .1 afr apart.
