input shaft seal leak.

Anyone know what would cause an input shaft/torque converter seal to leak? i was thinking overheating. The chick i got the car form says that a shop/shops told her that the seal will just go bad 3 days after replacing it....
 


I've seen it be a damaged torque converter before, but it could really be a lot of things. Never had one leak on me after replacing, but the way I see it, if I've already gone far enough to replace it, I'm going to replace the torque converter itself and the seal, and the o-ring while I'm there imho. Brandon or Bill might have a few more insights.

I havent replaced it yet but i dont understand how the shop knew that the seal would go out shortly after replacing it without taking it apart and as far as i know.She said that it wasnt replaced but that "every shop in illinois said it will go out 3 days after replacing"
 
That is stupid. Unless they think the seal wore a groove and will not seal for long after. I haven't come across any deep grooves on a TC like you do on the harmonic balancers. When you go in to do this, pressurize the converter as well (I cupped my hands on it and blew into it) I have seen a converter develop a leak/crack before that I couldn't see with my eye until fluid pushed out of it.
