Inner tie-rod questions

So for a while now, my car has made this noise that, when I move the steering wheel in a way that causes the tie rods to no longer push a wheel, but to start pulling it, a pop occurs. This noise happens no matter where the wheel is at, only when it switches direction. I think it is my right inner tie rod. Does this sound like it could be?

Also, if it is the right inner tie-rod, can this be replaced with the steering rack still in the car?

jack the car up and move the wheel left and right, 3 and 9 o clock areas, push back and fourth, if its got play in it one or the other is bad, if turn the wheel so the tir rod end is easy to see, then move the wheel again, watch the tie rod end, if its bad you will see it move at the knuckle where its bolted on.

if its tight, hold the rod part with your hand, or watch it closely while moving the knuckle, the rod will move if the inner is bad.

the inner can be changed in the car. you need to rent a inner tie rod removal tool, you need a 1/2 drive socket or breaker bar for the tool.
