Inner Rear Tire Wear - Question about cam bolts

extreme

New member
Okay I am going on my 4th set of tires on my 05 Grand Prix GXP - that has only 80k miles. Not winter driven. And this set and my last set has had excessive wear on the inside of the rear tires. This rear set still has 80%+ tread but the inside is so wore the belts are showing.

Ive been researching and have been told it is due to the alignment. I am going to be taking the car to a local shop to have it aligned before getting my new tires.

However I was told to install camber bolts? I am on factory bilstein suspension - no mods. Where can I get these at? And is there a "how to" on installing them or how do I go about doing this? Is this something any alignment shop can install or do for me? I dont want to wear on this set of $1000 tires!

Any help or links are always greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Type "AdvanceAuto.com" into your address bar
Select 2005 for the year
Select Pontiac for the Make
Select Grand Prix GXP for the Model
Click start shopping
Then type camber bolts into the search window.

There ya go. They go in basically like normal bolts but have small lobes to move the camber around.

And please..next time, leave it all in one thread. Thanks

95% of the time camber does not wear the tires, tow does. go get an alignment. im serious.

i am running more camber than stock (~2.5* all around) and my tires are not wearing funny. the shop will adjust your camber, but the liklihood is that there is only so much adjustment in the stock setup. unless your springs are really worn and saggy then there is no reason why your car would even be running more than about 1.5* of camber as it sits, and that spec is fine. i almost guarantee it's your tow.

I have gone through 3 sets of 235/50/18 BFG KDW's ('07 Monte Carlo SS) for the same reason...inside tire wear.

Every time I get new tires installed the toe is set to factory specs, and when I get my tires rotated around 5K the toe is still at factory specs, however the tires still wear on the inside, and are usually shot within 15-20K miles.

I am also going the Camber Bolt/Kit route to see if it helps.

Too much toe can cause "scrubbing" which will lead to inside tire wear, but others in the LS4 crowd have seen good results from Camber Bolts/Slotting the Struts.

set the tow to zero and add more camber. the car will track straight and the tire wear will be minimal.
