i have a stock 99 gt with 22 inch rims and am going to replace the struts since the body has 170,000 miles on them. so far the cheapest i priced some kyb quickstruts for all four is 472 at rock auto would it be cheaper to build my own strut and if so what all should i get i am not a mechanic but my brother in law is and could slap them together for me.i am going for smooth ride and if possible slight drop if it does not add any rubbing or affect my ride ....if someone could point me in the right direction of what all to get it would be much obliged .
 


the quick struts are going to be the easiest/quickest solution because it will provide you all new parts in a "drop-in" package.

at 170,000 miles you probably want that considering everything is probably worn out (struts, springs, top mounts).
 
you could probably piece together stuff yourself and get a better end product, but it won't be cheaper.
 
Honestly get a proper wheel size like an 18 for a 97-03, that will provide a much smoother ride than your 22's & be miles better on your steering rack lugging around those heavy 22's.
Sell 22's = buy cheaper 18's then have more money for a better suspension. Post pics of the car too, lets see these 22's

x2. The Monroe Sensetrac Quick Struts seem to be good quality, good ride, in the W-Bodies I've been in with them. Stock ride height obviously but if you have 22s you likely have a 27" or taller overall height, I doubt you want to lower.

When I used to piece together lower springs and strut assemblies, I would use Monroe parts to complete everything such as the rubber isolators, accordion boots and upper strut mounts. The Monroe upper mounts are one of the few that actually position the top of the strut shaft in the correct centered position, never had an issue with Monroe mounts, can't say the same with other brands I tried.
 


these are the rims haven't put them back on yet they are going on a white grand prix . just bought a mpd f1 hood from a member here going to put that on and paint the hood black, roof, trunk, and spoiler black as well looking for a 40th spoiler and some roof rails as well .....as far as the struts go i am stuck between rock auto's kyb and there better monroes quickstruts i have been scouring the internet for reviews between the both but it seems really split down the middle i am thinking the monroes only because they are slightly cheaper and everybody who prefers kyb is more into the go fast spectrum of the platform....basicly i have no idea yet

Quick struts should be fine for you of your keeping the stock height and not lowering.
