i went to the scrap yard and found 2 gtps that were striped of the engine and tranny, but i found alot of 3800 motors with what i think were the non HD trans but im not sure. is there any kind of # i can look up or any distinctions i can see to spot if it is an HD transmission?

cant you get a n/a trans, and swap your hd diff into it? makes it the same thing dont it? i could be wrong tho, the gears may not be right still.

The HD and nonHD transmissions are basically the same. The differences come in on the drive/driven sprockets and differentials for the most part.
Drive/Driven Gears: NA is 35/35 or 1:1 and the SC is 33/37 or 1:1.21
Differential: NA options (W body only) 3.29 non HD, SC 3.20 HD

Bigger cars like the Bonne, PA etc had options for 2.86 (I think) and 3.05 also in the non HD trans.

Try checking car-part.com for all your localish transmissions and best prices
