Ignition Switch Replacement Question

My 2002 GP GT started having issues today. I heard a clicking noise under the steering wheel, the a/c stopped working, the HVAC controls no longer worked, and the daytime running lights cycled on & off. After doing a little research it seemed like the ignition switch was the likely cause.

I replaced the ignition switch. The first time I installed the new ignition switch the car would not crank in the Crank position....but I found it would crank in the assessory position. I removed the switch and indexed the female portion of the switch that accepts the male post in the steering column 180 degrees. After reassembly I found the car cranked and ran as desired.

My problem now is the key does not automatically return from the Crank position to the Run position. It just stays in the Crank position until I manually back it off. Did I miss something in reassembly? Everything else seems to work ok...HVAC controls & a/c work, daytime running lights no longer cycle, and blower works fine.

Any suggestions?????

Re: Ignition Switch Replacement Problem

I fixed the problem. The ignition switch was defective. The return spring in the ignition switch was broken and would not automatically return the key to the Run position from the Crank position. I returned the switch and got a new one. Problem solved.
