I run a 3.2 now and i am totally KNOCK FREE thx to 03impala9c1 Think I should try a 3.0?? The guy who owned it before me ran a 2.8 with ALKY INJECTION. And that was without Headers and a FWI. My mods are below:

the only way to know if you can do it is to try it. i have a 3.1 to sell you if you want that.

how much timing are you running WOT?
 
how much boost were you pushin with the 3.2, im planning on dropping to the 3.0 myself and was wondering what to expect.
 
i was pushing about 11-12 psi on my rocker setup with a 3.2, so i would assume with his cam it would be a little less.
 


Rotors REALLY don't make as much difference as flow mods do...look at stage 2 intercooled people with 2.6's. 8-10 psi MAYBE. Cammed, non-intercooled cars with crazy tunes and such...I was running 13-15psi on a 3.1", no KR, pump 92.
 


I was running 17 PSI on the 2.8 with a stage 2 intercooler,ported blower and an XP cam.

I think you could go to that pulley if you wanted to. But it would be close without an intercooler or a bigger cam. But it's not about what we think. It about what you CAN do. So the best thing for you to do is to just scan to find out.
 
i say do it. ill be running a 2.8 with my meth kit. i see 13 psi now on my rockered, headered 3.25 set up 15* of timing
 
Just keep in mind...just because you have a lot of boost doesn't mean your car is going to be fast. I ran toe to toe with a 15psi GenV'ed car (same cam) and I had a 3.2" GenIII setup running about 12psi...
