So my headlights have been flickering on occasion, I didn't really think much about it, just turned the headlight switch back and forth and they would be fine. Well today both headlights wouldn't come on. So when I got home I turned the car off, then back on and they turned on with switch in off position. Turned headlights on with switch and they turned off and wouldn't come back on. Then trying to diagnose it I switched bulbs, same result, switched ballast, same result. Using the same bulbs I've noticed my driver side looks a diff bulb "color" than the pass side? All balasts are 55w, I even tried switching to a 35w ballast I had laying around with no good results. So now im like WTF!? Has anybody else had these issues? I would think headlight relay or fuse or even switch, but they do come on occasionally. Im at a point where im just gonna throw some reg bulbs in and say the hell with it, but we all know how much reg bulbs suck. Im trying to get the balls to do my own retros btw, (just cuz I know someone will tell me to get retros. Lol)

i can't for the life of me even conceive a power issue w/ the hid's if your using a relay harness

the fogs do it to me sometimes (flicker or random turn offs) but very rarely

also what you described (the bulb changing colors), it's about to die
after mine turned more yellow i had like 2 weeks left in the truck and it shattered and i had to clean glass out of the headlight

Had the same issue with my kit when I first got it. If you have to flip it on and off several times to make it start, it's a bad ballast. Power harnesses have nothing to do with your HIDs working properly. I have JLM which I been running past 2 years straight plugged in directly to the headlight power wires and they're just fine. My recommendation is get another kit from "reputable" source (Amazon) so you can at least return / exchange it if something like that happens again. And get 2 kits that way you got spares. :)

Its a reputable source, and its direct plug n play. I've swapped them out before too. But I think im gonna try reg halogens until I can get my retro project goin.

reputable my ass. every single hid kit you buy comes from china. its all luck. but i do like it that youre gonna go with a retrofit woot.

Lol, I hear u on that! Im gonna rid my car of all the hid bs and wiring, and run halogens (prob silverstar ultras). Until I can round up the correct parts for the retro. Gotta do some searching around on here and find out exactly what I need. Im going to buy new headlight assemblies, im thinking the black ones off ebay....how are the brackets on those? Sturdy and reliable?

Please don't waste your money on silverstars. They are junk. I never got more that 6 months out of them, and they cost more than a real HID kit. The light output sucks, and unlike HID kit, you can't return them if they fail on you.

Kinda sounds like an issue with your car, not your HIDs. When you turn the car on it is using the DRLs, whenyou use the switch they shut off... maybe start looking at the switch/circuit?

I found the problem, it looks like the electrical connection on the ballast burnt up a little bit. Swapped it out with a diff ballast and all is good. Still thinking about going with halogens until I can get my retro project goin. If not silverstars...then which kind are better??

PIAA bulbs are pretty good. Imo, just run stock lights until its done. Not worth spending a lot of money on bulbs you'll only use for a bit.

Exactly!! Im fine with spending the 50 or so on silverstars or something in that price range...but im not makin a project out of it for halogens for a short period. I have to have good headlights cuz there's tons of deer where I live and ppl hit them everyday. With my hids I see groups of them in the ditch waaay before im near them.
