This has been a mess for me, I have a 2000 gtp. 278,000 miles, my car has been sitting for about 4 months now... I was on a 600 mile road trip and my trans died right at the end of my driveway, went to make a left in my driveway and it just quit pulling. I had to push it down my driveway, when you put it in drive you can hear it grind away. I ththought it was the diff but no, diff is fine, output shaft is fine. Not sure what the part on driver side of output shaft is called but I believe that is my problem, only thing is I don't know what that part is called, and could that be my problem? I'm transmission dumb so any help is appreciated. I'm hoping to tear down the other side tomorrow, but what am I looking for. I managed to pull my output shaft through with out removing the clip on driver side, and when I stick the shaft in there all the way and turn it, it doesn't grab...

Is it the sun gear that the driver side splines of the out put shaft go in to? I'm 21 trying to teach this stuff to myself, so sorry for my ignorence. Soon as the it quits raining I plan on starting on it again. You shouldn't be able to pull the output shaft through with out removing to c clip right? And when you shove it back in it should grab something correct? I'm looking at diagrams trying to figure it out.

From driverside wheel to passenger side wheel on that part.

The CV axle cups over the output shaft, the output shaft runs the length of the trans and hooks into the diff, then the passenger side CV axle is inserted into the other end of the diff.
