So my gf has a 98 talon. i love eclipses/talons. till tonight. her alternator belt was about 1/3 the size it should be due to shredding and previous owners/dealers not doing maintnence. this thing a ***** to get off. i have no idea how your sposed to loosen the alternator. theres sposed to be a tensioner bolt for it but i cant seem to find =[. im ready to bomb this pos. you have to jack the car up jsut to get to the alternator. this would be where im stuck.

*end rant*

shes broke now =/. she paid cash for the talon. when we bought it, it ran great. minus slow ass acceleration. im gona call the used lot we bought it from tommorow because we have a warranty for it and ***** at the guy for being a ****ty salesman and not having his cars looked over before selling them. in the meen time im still try and change it myself

My neon had the same set up i believe its around the idler I cant picture it but i know when i burned up a belt i had to take the tire on the side of the crank off and the bolt faces the fire wall i belive
It just spins to it takes a bit of wrenching to lossen it up

i looked behind the altenator towrds the firewall from up top and from bottom and saw absolutely no bolts.

It is at the back of it...we had to remove the wheel, caliper, AND strut to get it off...trust me...took nearly a day...was it worth it? Yes...because I paid $500 for the car...the battery was good and the alternator was used for $30 bucks off of a local...then I changed the oil and put new plugs and wires in it...which was another $50. So it was a $600 car with a new tank of 91. And it was a '97 Eclipse GS FWIW...automatic...which makes no difference here. Sold it for $1100...man I wish I still had that car...

Thats pretty good I got the neon for free changed the trans and oil pan gaskets and the belt(guess its a little dff in the eclipes i know that they the same enginein teh eclipes and neon just dont know what years) It only took me around 2.5 hours to do mine so it may have slightly differnt placement
that car was a good free car drove it around 50k before its imploded

its not the dealers fault??? if it ran fine when they had it they aren gonna waste money to "look it over"...sucks it happened but thats what the warranty is for... just my .02

You should have known what you were getting into when you decided to a get a DSM. There should be a law that states people cannot DD DSMs.
