Saturday night I was bored and went to a cruising strip on the other side of town in my GTP. I seen a car almot identical to my first car! I folllowed it for several miles. The options on that car all together was rare to find. It had a factory power antenna, duals, factory spoiler w/ 3rd brake light, and package shelf 3rd brake light delete, 16x7 White Wheels, and non B4U package. In fact my dad was the original owner of the car and ordered it brand new through GM (he was a GM employee). Anyway, the driver ended up turning into an apartment complex and I kept going. About 1/2 mile down the road I turned around. I seen the guy getting out of the car, I thought it won't hurt to ask. I pulled in and asked him... "Excuse me sir, is that a 1993 GP?", "Yes" he said. "Did you buy from a mother or a younger lady from Edmond?", "Yes" he said, "I'll be damned, I think you own my first car!"

Anyway, he was cool and we talked a bit, he let me look around it a bit. I asked if I could looked at a couple things, which he let me. The exhaust I put on it was still there, I had Flowtech Afterburners on that car. It was my old car no doubt! It was like meeting an old friend again, but sad at the same time. The car is all beat up and well worn.

I sold the car to a Mother from Edmond. She bought the car for her 16 yr old daughter for her first car. The car was flawless and in perfect shape, perfect starter car. Sold it for $3,800 and it had 150,000+ miles on it. All it really needed was new tint, otherwise it was mechanical sound and took care of. Well, she bought it in Aug of 2002 and thats the last time I saw it again. I always regreted selling it but I had to. I just got another car and I was fresh out of High School so I needed the money to pay off my car, plus I had no where to keep a second car. If I had to do it again, I would of tried harder to keep that car around as a spare, it was a good solid car.

Anyway, I guess the daughter got the car and beat it up here and there and I guess she had a dumbass boyfriend and they got into a fight and he seriously tore the piss out of the car. I guess the mother got fed up and sold the car to its current owner so he told me, this guy whos about in his 40s and a painter. The car is pretty much as he got it. He says it been realible, all he's done was installed a new alternator and a tranny at a 170,000 otherwise its at 200,000 now and going strong (though I noticed it misfiring badly at a couple lights). Its a basket case, nothing like it was before.

Only a few people here saw the car but it was in 2002 the cleanest 93 model car in the country. It was show room condition. I probably invested $1,000 into the car keeping the sides nice and slick thanks to PDR. Beatiful car, very realible, never had any problems with it. Great cruiser but it was seriously underpowered with a 140HP 3.1 MPFI V6.

Here are some pics when I first got it, just as my dad left it...

After having it a while, I added a few small personal touches, nothing big...

These are the last pics I have before I sold it. I took everthing off minus the K&N filter and the Flowtech Mufflers. I kept all the original parts such as the pillar and swapped them back. Swapped the stock wheels back on of course.

I didn't have a camera with me to show what it looks like now, I don't think I could of taken the pics. It was just sad to see. Beat up on both sides, clearly wreaked in the rear before (lots of overspray in places). If you'd seen the car before and after you'd never know it was the same car. The guy was nice, told me where he worked and told me to stop by sometime. Pretty nice considering I was a complete stranger to him at 11:30 at night.

I have some serious regrets selling that car. If I would of kept it, it would of been still perfect and realible and I let it go. I won't make that mistake twice, let me tell ya. Its hard to find a good realible car. My GTP has fit that bill perfect and I won't let it go.

I've had crazy thoughts about actully buying back the old 93 and restoring it like it was or doing something a little custom. If I had hook ups with a good paint and body guy i'd seriously consider it. I could do the mechicnical work myself. The body would have to be straightened out perfect, a good paint job applied for the sleek lines. According to KBB in Fair/Poor condition its worth $875. Restoring it would be purely for sentimental value only, the car ain't valuable otherwise. I kinda wonder if this is a second chance? Its wierd finding this car in an area i've cruised for years (I used to even cruise this area in that car!) out of the blue. I've thought about the cars over the years, I figured the dumbass kid wrapped it around a tree soon after. Its nice that its still alive, but sad its in the condition its in, ya know?

I donno what to do guys, I can't stop thinking about the damn thing! :th_shakinghead1:

man small world .u should buy it,gradually build it up again. maybe swap it out for a 3800 series 2 l36 and use it as a daily driver.

It seems like each time I'm home I see my first car (truck, actually). Kinda weird, seeing how big Memphis is and all. But, he's keeping good care of it. New tires, fresh paint (original paint was fading slightly), etc.

I'd hate to see her beat up... If that was the case I'd make an offer right then and there, take her back, and get her back in shape now that I have more funds to.

Take the word of an old, experienced guy. Don't buy it back, been there, done that, way more than once. It's never as good as you remember and you will soon tire of it. Remember the good and move forward. While you're looking back you might walk in front of a bus!:th_laugh-lol2::th_thumbsup-wink:

I love these year. The Gen 1 W body's are one of the best year Gp's they ever made. The only thing wrong with them is that they were not that fast.

It would take some coin to get the car like it was. Like I said, it was no doubt the cleanest Pre-Gen around. If I had the hook ups for paint and body work, i'd buy it in a heartbeat. Otherwise getting it sleek and flawless would cost $5,000+ and its not really worth it because the car is worth $1,500 in good condition according to KBB. Like I said, it would be sentimental value more than anything. And since the car ain't really rare, why restore it stock? I'd probably install an L67 W/ 4T65-HD, 94+ Brakes, coilovers on all 4 corners (loose the stock rear monoleaf), etc.

Hell, if I had the hook up or the knowledge i'd buy it and go wild, turn it into a RWD and throw in an LS1 (i know where one is at). But I ain't no body man, nore can I fab up metal. I've seen a couple badass Pre-gen RWD V8 swaps out there, that would be cool, but again i'm dreaming. I figure if I spend a crap load of money, I might as well customize it though to suit my needs, know what I mean? Where is Chip Foose when I need him?!?!? I'd let him overhaul it! LOL!

In reality though the sad fact is since I don't have the connections, theres no way this car will be back with me again. Lets face the facts, I wouldn't settle for a Maaco job, it would have to be done right. It sucks, I miss the way it was...

Strange seeing a cool car in the middle of the night and that person actually talks to you, huh? haha
For everyone else, I went down to Oklahoma City one night and found the 'Big Cruise'. I saw a sweet white GP. I walked out to the road and got a picture as it drove by.

I showed it to my husband and he said that guy is in the club (I'm an airhead when it comes to recognizing someone). Anyway, I saw him later and stoped to talk to him and it was Shawn. Oh yeah, he was going too fast, so I didn't get a great pic with my phone.

Yeah, I wonder where my first car is now.

I bought a 1987 Buick Riviera T-Type when I was just out of HS. I bought it with 80k on the clock for $2500. Around 150k, I decided to use some extra GN parts my cousin had laying around, and turboed it. It wasn't perfect, but it was my first taste of forced induction. I eventually sold it on ebay to someone in IL for $1750 with 167k on the odo. The guy said he was going to race it at the track.

I just wonder what happened to that car.

Thats a good looking car. Needs better seats though. :D

I wouldnt know bout the seats.

I still have my first car. haha And second and third, and fourth. Okay, So I have em all. When they aren't the greatest, you can afford to keep em.

Wow, nice shot of my HID headlights and Fogs Lorie! I'll have to save that pic for my collection. Don't have many action shot of the ol girl.

Zef, thats a pretty cool first car, i'd rock it. Did you ever run it by chance with the Turbo? I'm sure it woke it up a little. I always liked those, I'd love to find a Lesabre T-Type too. I believe they made a Century T-Type too and it was kinda neat looking, rare though.

LOL Street Wolf. He's still trying to trade me his 04 CompG seats for my hood, he ain't giving up! :-)
