Hypothetical situation about car insurance

Just wondering since I kept seeing ad on TV that a car insurance will replace your car with one that is 1 year newer and lower miles. What happens if your car was discontinued? Say I have a '08 GP and it was destroyed. Where would they get a '09 GP? Or can they be sued for false advertising if it was never that clear there'd be exceptions to one-year-newer offer? :th_scratchhead: They can't even offer one lump sum cash settlement because there's no price for non-existent car.

Just wondering. No it won't affect me, no accident for 12 years and it'd take me forever to use that insurance to upgrade from my current '05 GP to the fictional '09 GP. I'm more likely to end up in old people's home before I get into 4th car accident using my GP. :th_biggrin2:

I'm sure there's something in the fine print. I imagine since for example there is no 09 GP that they would just give the value of the car like any other insurance company would do if you get into a accident.

I tend not to believe the BS that most companies try to pull on their customers.

Everything is done on replacement value (I've totalled out a few cars in my day...). Typically when you total a car, the insurance company will base the payout on the current retail of a similar car advertised for sale on the lots in the area. I imagine that for this deal, they look at cars one model year newer. In the case of the GP - true, there is no '09 GP, but there are other GM vehicles in the same segment as the GP, so they'd look at those one model year newer to make that determination.

I figured this thread was gonna go more of this way....

"Soooo lets just say that my car broke down and it accidently got pushed into the grill in my backyard that just so happened to have the propane lines disconnected. It also just so happened that someone accidently left the gas on when they disconnected said lines (did I mention I just so happened to have completely refilled the bottle just hours before?). Then by some weird coincidence my car burst into flames as it mysteriously coasted through my side yard and into my backyard towards the grill with the disconnected propane lines while the tank was still turned on. And for some weird reason my grill was put just inches away from my house earlier that day because I was cleaning off the patio in my yard (so what if it's still dirty! I MEANT to do it but I got distracted). So as fate would have it my grand prix (which oddly enough I put $10,000 worth of insurance on two days ago with zero deductible) coasted into the grill causing a massive explosion that blew out half of my house (which hey wouldn't you know, also just had a nice insurance plan just issued on it) and burnt down the rest of it within minutes.

Me and my family also decided to stay the night in a hotel that night because the house developed a huge mold problem after flooding a few days prior. Would any of this seem suspicious.
