I have a 90 grand prix ste with the turbo 3.1L. I just got the car and I'm slowly working out all the problems with it, and the biggest one is the brakes. I took it into Les Schwab today an they told me that it has a hydroboost system, and that they can't fix it or even get parts for it. I'm trying to figure out if it will be easier and cheap to fix it, or if I should get rid of all the abs stuff and convert it over to a vacuum boost system. Any help would be greatly appreciated. This car would make such a great sleeper, but I don't want to put a lot of money into it.

hydro-boost doesn't have much to do with the ABS, instead of having a vacuum booster, it uses Power steering pressure to assist in braking, you can switch to a Vacuum booster setup, but you will very quickly loose braking abilities under boost(press it more than 2x, and your out of vacuum), I'm still not sure why the M62/M90 cars didn't have the system, so for drag racing, not an issue, but for road racing/spirited driving, it is less than ideal to swap back to the vacuum setup
Ok, I'm glad I asked. So it looks like I need to replace the one that I have. Any idea of how hard it is to do? How long can I expect it to take me? Where can I get one? How much do these things cost? And do I have to replace the whole master cylinder assembly, or is there seperate parts I can replace? Or should I just get rid of the car?

This one actually has it's own electric motor instead of running off the power steering pump. Kind of strange, but I guess it's because they are on opposite sides of the engine bay. And She's be pissed if I gave "her" car away. But it may be for sale soon. I wish she would have just been happy with the Z28 I got her.
