on my 2001 grand prix se i was hearing a loud humming and it got worse with time. eventually it felt like it was holding up the car. like i was pulling a trailer or something.
I was told it was the bearings on the drivers side. Car sat in garage for a few weeks and yeaterday i discovered this site. I found an excellent post with pics on how to change hub/bearingd assembly. Needless to say i got that done a few minutes ago, went for a ride and it didnt fix a thing. i did notice in my short ride around the block everything including rim was extremely hot. i went to passenger side just to see and it wasnt even warm. Any ideas on what it could be would be is greatly appreciated.

nah, i dont feel any type of pull to one side or another. the longer i drive i notice i need more gas just to get it going. for example, if i start it up it will move forward if i put her in drive and let it just idle. then after a couple minutes of driving it wont budge and is extremely hot.

jack the front end up and see if the wheel spins freely, must put in neutral and put blocks on rear tires + e brake... Did changing the bearing get rid of the humming?

humming was stil there. I will try this when i get home. what does it mean if the wheel wont spin?

also, the ABS light has been on.

sounds to me like the brake caliper might be seized, especially if you're notice enough of a problem that's hindering performance but I'd be surprised that you wouldn't notice a problem when you were replacing the hub bearing assembly

i really have no idea what im doing. Money is extermely tight and this is the 1st repair besides pads/rotors that i have ever tried. What could i have missed with the caliper??

If the wheel is getting hot to the touch then the brake caliper on that side is not releasing fully. It could be a defective caliper itself, worn or stuck guide pins. Also could be a partially clogged brake hose at the caliper not letting fluid return back to the reservoir. Do as stated in the previous post to check to see if its binding up.:th_thumbsup-wink:
