• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

HP Tuning - For us noobs

I found this HP tuning series on Youtube. This guy is really detailed, and tunes his own truck as he makes the videos. And the videos are within the last 3 or 4 months. It's not the 3800 engine, but you get the idea on where to start with tuning.

This one is about MAF tuning, but he has other videos to tune speed density, timing, torque, and PE. His first 2 volumes he explains the HP Tuner purpose, etc.
MAF Tuning and Scaling, Tuning Series Vol. 3, HP Tuners - YouTube

The first post guys video's have a lot of mis-information about some things regarding the computers he is talking about. Mainly some of his thoughts on dynamic airflow, VE tuning and VVE tuning. All stuff that doesn't matter with a 3800.

It would take too long to get in depth with some of the things he said wrong but oh well.

Most people end up on HP Tuner forums saying they followed something and ended up putting them further in the hole.

I think a lot of new tuners, and this forum in general, would greatly benefit from a rewrite of how to tune a 3800 in the latest version of HPT. It seems that all the sticky posts are pretty well outdated at this point. I can think of one guy that would be perfect for this. He knows HPT very well, and is very familiar with tuning the 3800. He probably even has some scanner layouts already made just for the 3800... *cough* FFDP *cough*

I realize his videos really had nothing to do with the 3800, but I don't really have much else to go on. Most of the HP Tuner stuff for the 3800's are 7 or 8 years old now, and things have changed. I was particularly interested in the MAF tuning. That's probably where I will start, and he gives good advice on what to start with that is safe.

Do you have any idea how lazy I am?

I've thought about trying to make some new what I want to call "picture" threads with simple steps on how to do things using the newest 4.0+ software. I can't tell you how many times I've typed the same damn thing over and over and over again on the forum. I bet if you just search some topic that deals with something using a V8, it's probably me saying something but providing no pictures or step by step video on how to do it. I'm sure it throws most people for a loop as they have to sift through **** just to find the information they want and make it match with what I or someone else said.

I'm computer smart in some things but computer stupid in others. I need to figure out a better way to screen shot what I'm doing and get them on a better photo sharing website that won't have issues like photobucket had.

You're not lazy. Maybe unfocused. I've seen you take 10 minutes to answer the same question a dozen times, but you won't take 2 hours to type up a useful how to. You have a lot more to offer.

Uhhh. Yup. Exactly.

So what's stopping you?
