i was wondering if the true mileage for my 2000 grand prix se can be found out thru the ECU...if anyone can help i wood greatly apprieciate it thnxx in advancee!!!!

No way to tell by the computer. CarFax is your best bet on finding accurate miliage.

car fax is only as good as the last titled owners info was good or not, or if it was in a bad accident. my car showed 160,000 on the title from the last owner, and when i got my cluster fixed it showed 212,000, big difference if u ask me. the last owner only had it for a year, so i don't think they put 50 thousand plus in one year, so in my case i believe the odometer was out for years, i have a regal gs and the cluster lights burn out,,so all i had to do was get the cluster rebuilt and the mileage showed up, i don't know if your cluster took a dump or not but it may be in there still. a odometer repair shop may be able to let you know if the mileage is stored and/or obtainable.

thnx guys....i seen on a diff forum that it can be done thru ecu but for a volkswagon...so i wanted to make sure before i bought a obd scanner...when i bought the car i was told the odometer was wrong cus the engine was rebuilt...an my cluster did break an was wonderin if i was able to find the mileage if i can make it show on the new cluster

i don't believe its legal to change your mileage to the the motors rebuilt mileage,,it should alway read what the car has on it, just note the mileage when the motor was rebuilt on a sticker so u know what the engine has on it, if u get a rebuilt cluster u can have the repair shop set the mileage to the closest mileage u can find, ie: last title mileage,,don't go any further back on it as u will be signing a odometer disclaimer form, that way if u lie about the mileage the shop don't get screwed and lose his shop or licence, and get sued himself, its a legal form for the shops safety. there are lots of ppl on ebay that repair clusters or sell rebuilt ones with the mileage u need it to have.

you can put one in that reads differently.... you need to put a sticker on the car that says what it was before it was replaced.

if you go this route you, will need to log the replacement clusters mileage as well as your cars mileage, or your math will never work down the road.

the sticker covers that.

But you can still roll back odo. guy at work says someone he knows claims he can do any car, no trace of roll back.

the guy who rebuilt my cluster found it to be way to gone, some ya hoo tried to fix it him self and burnt up the board, he downloaded my info and reprogrammed the mileage into another used rebuilt cluster, so if u have the right equipment it can be done.

IIRC correctly most gms you cant read mileage off the pcm. Most chryslers you can tho. You need a good scan tool to be able to do it tho not cheap ones.
